During the 1960’s the Pak Army had convinced itself that 1 PA soldier = 10 IA soldiers.
Does this feeling of superiority still prevail in the army circles?

why are you asking malhot? Are you planning to play polo with Pakistanis?
Or this is yet another friendly jibe at your "cousins" on the other side of the border?
Funny how literate and normal techies would become little joksters or worse "hot air balloons" when they visit Pakistani forums.

after guzzling a bottle of imported whisky, the Generals would have a blurry vision and they'd start seeing things. Kargil was yet another example of such flawed vision & miscalculations on part of our so called Defenders & Strategic planners.
Re: The Pak soldier is equal to 10 Indian soldiers?
The thread starter asks a simple question pertaining to military folklore and history, no need to get offended or on the contrary to take the question as a means to attack and dissect either of the mentioned military.
Re: The Pak soldier is equal to 10 Indian soldiers?
arrogant boast of ayyub khan , its ridiculus \
90% of pak soldiers are punjabi , majority of indians in army on pak border are punjabi ....so whats the difference ?
only in motivation perhaps
Re: The Pak soldier is equal to 10 Indian soldiers?
Malhot,
I think this was a war-time morale and ego boosting slogan of sorts more than a proper belief or conviction. No doubt it may have and perhaps did create superiority notions at times and for some, but for any reasoning individual it can't be taken for more than what I described it as.
Speaking of whether this feeling still prevails; I think as a belief it never was and today couldn't be more than ever. But regarding it as a booster, it can still have some morale pumping effects like yesteryear.
I think lots of people from India and Pakistan find it ridiculous, but I think it's not too out of line with how any people glorify their fighting men ala William Wallace and the alleged balls of lightning from his behind in Braveheart. That's just one example that comes to mind right now.
Re: The Pak soldier is equal to 10 Indian soldiers?
Hello all,
Here is a joke and only a joke that I heard only a few weeks ago at work (where there are a number of Indians and some who I do not know whether Indian or Pakistani)>
A: Why is USA giving our tax money to Pakistan
B: Oh it is not really aid, we are reimbursing the war expenses for each Paksitan soldier deployed
A: So you are saying each soldier in Pakistan costs $15000 above and beyond their salary etc which Pakistan has to pay anyway?
B: Yeah but don't forget each soldier is equal to 10 Indians, so USA is getting a very good deal!
Regards
Pundit Vikram

Re: The Pak soldier is equal to 10 Indian soldiers?
One of my friends dad was an army Doctor who used to visit the 71' Pakistani POWs.
His observation was that the Pak soldier's morale was very high even after surrendering.
Some of them openly condemned their officers and felt the IA officers were better.
They also showed surprise that Indian soldiers & officers have a friendly relationship, whereas in the PA it is very rigid & official.
Das - Punjabi's only constitute about 15% of the IA.
Re: The Pak soldier is equal to 10 Indian soldiers?

Re: The Pak soldier is equal to 10 Indian soldiers?
War today, unfortunately or fortunately, is not hand-to-hand combat.
Re: The Pak soldier is equal to 10 Indian soldiers?
given that India is one of the most frequently invaded and successfully occupied countries, mostly from the western borders, there probably is some objective truth to the idea.

Ravage: has a point, not only were we physically but also mentally enslaved by so many foreign occupiers.
That is obvious due to the large number of conversions to Islam & later to Christianity.
