The Overrated Moderates

The voter’s rights act has made news recently. Alabama wants to do away with laws ensuring protection of minority voting rights. The claim being there is no need for such laws. Conservative Supreme Court justest Justice Scalia labels such laws as ENTITLEMENTS. The liberals are outraged. The Moderates are right down the middle, whatever that means.

It is getting increasingly difficult to qualify for aid (for low income families). You have to be literally starving to qualify. Not one day without food starving. Starving of more intense kind. Conservatives want to cut down such “entitlements”. Liberals are outraged. Moderates? They are right down the middle, whatever that means.

Re: The Overrated Moderates

Public school budget for lunch keeps shrinking. School cafeteria chefs find it impossible to feed the kids without adding unhealthy ingredients. Conservatives applaud these cuts in “entitlements”. Liberals are outraged. The Moderates? They are right down the middle. And thumb their nose at the “Extremes” - the Conservatives and the liberals.

While such cuts are made, Conservatives support a 25 billion dollar subsidy to the Monsantos of the world. Who make unhealthy products in bulk - to be sold to the poor. Thus keeping the cycle of poor health intact. The Conservatives then turn around and blame the poor for irresponsible behavior leading to poor health. The Liberals are outraged. The Moderates? They are right down the middle. And cant understand why the Liberal Extremists Mock the Conservatives. Apparently mocking is disrespectful.

Re: The Overrated Moderates

The minimum wage is barely enough to feed a family of four even after working 60 hours a week. Thus causing such families to apply for govt aid. The conservatives are against raising the minimum wage. And they are for cutting entitlements for the poor. The liberals are outraged. The Moderates are smug in their comfort zone - of being in the middle.

The 2007 financial bubble rewarded Goldman Sachs et al for bad behavior. Govt forced AIG to give 100 cents on the dollar to Goldman Sachs UBS Deutsche Bank etc. Rather than negotiate down to say 20 cents on the dollar. No big bank CEOs went to jail. Conservatives cheered. Liberals outraged. And the Moderates? You guessed it. They were too busy being respectful.

Re: The Overrated Moderates

You think moderates are being respectful? Or lazy?

Re: The Overrated Moderates

^ nice rhetorical question

Re: The Overrated Moderates

“Whatever that means” = I don’t give two flying hoots because it’s not happening to me.

Re: The Overrated Moderates

Exactly. It’s often the case in politics that the loud minority gets what they want while the rest are unaware or uninterested.

Re: The Overrated Moderates

Loud or privileged?

Re: The Overrated Moderates

Both, with the loud often being manipulated by the privileged. I’m thinking specifically of the Tea Party and the Koch brothers.

Re: The Overrated Moderates

The loud foot soldiers are conned by the priviedged to vote against their own best interest and in favor of top 1%.

Re: The Overrated Moderates

The secularists are being portrayed as being anti-religious by the Religious Right. The Liberals protest, in vain. The Moderates? Want respectful and civil discourse between two equally valid positions.

The blasphemy law is being promoted as fair to all (excluding athiests) by those on the Right. The Liberals protest, in vain. The Moderates? You get the drift.

Re: The Overrated Moderates

The Right starts unnecessary wars. The Liberals (about 10% of the population) protest. The Moderates? About 50% of the population- are weighing both sides.

Re: The Overrated Moderates

The Right wants to gut Medicaid. The 10% of the population fights for Medicaid. The Moderates? Weighing both sides.

Re: The Overrated Moderates

This thread is an equal opportunity critic of the Religious Right- regardless of Religion and Country. Was watching John Bogle, the Index Fund guru. He said

“Actively managed funds are yesterday” - ( meaning their time is over, finished.)

The Religious Right is yesterday. Onwards and upwards.

Re: The Overrated Moderates

Visited rediff. Had an interview of double sri Ravi Shankar on. Not a big fan of the fake Sadhu. The comments section was just vile. One reference to Pork. An alternate universe of right wing nuts.

And recently a 25 yr old Pakistani soldier got stoned to death for a relationship with a 20 year old. The bashtuds. And the 20 yr old girl will be shot.

May the soldier Rest in Peace. Hope the girl is saved.

Re: The Overrated Moderates

Conservatives want to cut down “poorly performing public schools”. Apparently, the kids don’t show up regularly. They are always lethargic and without energy. Have learning shortfalls. The liberals know the kids are lethargic because 50 million people in America go hungry. Of course the conservatives have addressed that by cutting entitlements such as free and healthy food in the school cafetsria. Liberals know some poor parents on minimum wage cant feed their family. They want govt to invest in the future.

The moderates? Thry think the liberals are self- righteous.

Re: The Overrated Moderates

The war on drugs has been a disaster. Conservatives wanted to pac jjails with non-violent drug addicts. Some want the blasphemy law applied to the addicts. The liberals want drug addiction to be treated as a disease. And for the govt to invest in treatment and education. The moderates? They are puzzled. They want to know if the liberals want druggies to freely roam the strrets.

Re: The Overrated Moderates

I thought doing drugs is punishable under the blasphemy law? Correct me if I am wrong. I will remove incorrect text.

Re: The Overrated Moderates

Today’s Bill Moyers guest Prof. Marshall Ganz talked about inequalities and how to eliminate them. In 1964 hewas a civiln rights actividt for African aamericans right to vote etc. He later ensured farm workers in CA were organized and got a fair shake.

Everyone should care abt their interests he says. But nit just their own. Look out for community. Now that is a liberal outlook. The right wing was and is busy denying rights to minorities.

And the Moderates? They are weighing both sides. How about them Moderates?
