Back in 1818, the Ottoman Khilafat despatched an army from Egypt to Arabia that crushed a rebellious faction of arabs there, led by the Sa'ud family, that were labelled "wahabies". Their leader was taken in chains to Istanbul and beheaded.
The world would have been a very, very, very different place if only the Khalif did not decide, 100 years ago, to declare jihad on Russia and thus enter the war that brought the downfall of the Khilafat :(
The Hijaz, Palestine, Syria, Iraq, Jordan, all would still be part of a single nation under Hanafi fiqh. And at least we would have had someone to give bayt to!
