first of all canada is multicultural country not secular like france. ministry of multiculturalism here makes sure that ppl get to practice their religion and culture freely where ever they are. we r not made to be ashamed to be pakistani or muslim here unlike the idea of 'melting pot' in US or other countries.
personally, i like balance in life. i am muslim and i am pakistani and i live in canada. as a canadian i have a distinct culture that is unique like every other person here. Alhumdulillah i dont feel the need to act like others just to fit in. just because i am living in canada doesnt mean i forget my culture, my roots, my values.
and the so called 'progressive paki muslims' are just bunch of confused souls in my opinion creating their own brand of 'islam' and identity trying hard to be someone that they can never be.
just because u act like gora, walk or talk like gora, doesnt mean the gora accepts u as one of them. its kinda like an oriental with an afro i saw once in the subway. it was really disturbing.
