Is it possible for you people to give the origin of IP address of every poster at the bottom of his/her post? I have seen that on some sites, and I’m sure you people can keep track of the IP addresses of the people here. I don’t want to sound paranoid, but I suspect there are some among us who are not what they pretend to be. Who cares? Nobody! But when some people start using the message board to spread lies and propaganda, someone should take notice. These ‘slippery’ people act like worms that come out of nowhere and disappear after posting absolute rubbish. They do not interact with you. They answer no question. All they do is post lies and more lies for gullible minds.
I really appreciate the good work done by you people - all mods and admins. I am here because I find this board useful. And I would be here even if it were a paid site. But if this board becomes a propaganda tool for liars and Pakistan hating ethnocentric shadowy characters, I may not be here for long… That would make little difference to you. But the distinction between truth and lie is still important to me.
Please let us know the country of origin of every post here. So next time someone uses his freedom of speech, we might know where his speech is coming from.
that wouldnt work, since half the people are expats here. how about just having a location field. thats already there..or was atleast.. but how about one thats set with a drop down box so we have actual locations there instead of informative stuff like "In my Dreams" and "I like icecream"
As for the IP & Location, I don’t think GS is allowed to give away any info to others for security reasons. There is a Location field in your profile, and it is an optional field. SO unless the user her/himself want to give away their location, GS doesn’t want jeopardize its users privacy.
If you find some one is misinforming other on religion or Pakistan basis, then it’s your responsibility to prove em wrong providing true evidences! and later report them to god.
There are still ways to ploy with the IP thing, so its not gonna work here, moreover it comes under security, site admins can’t disclose it in public unless FBI inquire!
Later on it is site builder’s responsibility to completely delete that misinformation and prohibit those IP for making further clashes.
Beside, those naive souls have to be a little more smarter to read between the lines and words and characters and commas, if not yet then at least try to be, its time to wake up and look deep inside! ...
Okay, let me try to explain myself. I did not demand to know anyone's IP address. It should not be revealed. Secondly, it can be hard to maneuver your response to dynamic and fictitious addresses. Most importantly, I do not advocate turning this board into some kind of security apparatus. What I requested what the location - the country from which the post was generated. For example, if a poster Y has (US IP) written at the bottom right corner of his post, he is unlikely to claim that his privacy has been compromised. If a poter has (Pak IP) written at the bottom right corner of his post, he is unlikey to claim any breach of privacy laws.
I might have demanded that for all the wrong reasons. Still, if it can bring greater transparency here (and if it is legal), it should be seriously considered. I know the technical people have been doing a lot of work, and I do not expect new changes every new week or month. It can be done in six months or nine months or even a year. But, I believe, there is going to be a time, when you would like to see some similar changes. The idea is not to hold the GS staff responsible... The idea is to hold the posters (including me) responsible for their posts. We are not going after anyone. But to properly answer people, you must know where they are coming from.
I don't really see the benefit of such information. The IP info is available to admins and therefore if need be they can and do hold posters responsible for thier posts.
