The duplicitous reporting of Muslims by the media and discrimination by the legal system was seen yet again in the recent coverage of David Tovey in the UK.
Tovey was found recently guilty of two charges of racially aggravated criminal damage for scrawling graffiti that purported to celebrate the deaths of white people in the 11 September attacks on America. One slogan read: “4,000 white pigs died, a good start.” Another said: “Die white trade centre scum.” A jury agreed with the prosecution case that Tovey had written the messages in lavatory blocks near his home to stir up racial tension.
Tovey had also at his home an arsenal of guns, napalm and bomb-making equipment was planning a murderous campaign against ethnic minority communities, police believe.
But police found he had been using white supremacist on his computer and books such as The Death Dealer’s Manual, The Poisoner’s handbook, The Black Book of Arson and The Black Book of Boobytraps. They also found a sketch he had made of a mosque in Swindon, with comments such as “niggers all down Broad Street”, and discovered he had been stalking black people and Asians in Swindon and Oxford, writing down their car registrations alongside references such as “nigger” and “Paki”. Officers also found a letter, magazine and newspaper from the British National Party addressed to Tovey.
He was portrayed in the media as a white supremacist and a loner and was not identified with any traditional right-wing group.
In contrast only a month earlier Mohammed Abdulah Azam, was remanded in custody at London Bow Street magistrates, accused of having books and documents outlining how to make bombs and weapons that could have been used in a terrorist attack.
Azam was charged under Section 58 of the Terrorism Act 2000 that he allegedly collected information without reasonable excuse of a kind likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism or had in his possession documents or records containing information of that kind.
Whilst Tovey had amassed real weapons of destruction and terrorism, it was Azam who was labelled the terrorist. Whilst Tovey was according to police planning a murderous campaign, it was Azam who was the terrorist for collecting what appeared in reports as nothing more than survivalist literature. In fact in not one media report, nor any court appearances was Tovey labelled a terrorist or the word terrorism used. Whilst the opposite case occurred for Azam.
The same duplicity also occurred recently in the case of Karim Chatty arrested and accused of terrorism trying to board a flight from Stockholm to Stansted with a gun in his hand luggage. Although now released from custody as the case was found to be weak according to prosecutors, the accusations of terrorism were thick and fast.
Yet at the same time in the US a Robert J. Goldstein was arrested after 15 homemade explosive devices in his home were found and a detailed plan to blow up an Islamic educational center. The search of Goldstein’s residence also turned up a list of about 50 Islamic worship centers in the Tampa. During the low key media coverage not one mention of Goldstein’s religion or political affiliation in any of the media outlets was made.
In essence the only terrorist is a Muslim.
Justification enough for America to introduce this month the photographing and fingerprinting of all incoming foreign nationals of majority Muslim countries i.e. Muslims. Had this draconian measure been introduced against say Jews their would have been a media uproar. In reality the event passed relatively unnoticed in the western press.
Should Muslims be surprised at all of this media bias? Islam and the Muslims will continue to feature as the victim that deserves abuse and labelled terrorists at every opportunity. These double standards are nothing more than the visible enmity that is bred by capitalism, a weak ideology that cannot stomach Islam, the only real radical ideological alternative that has the potential to attract its followers. As such its machinations achieved through its accomplices like the media will continue.
