Ian Hanomansing brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his roles as host of CBC NEWS: CANADA NOW – CBC Television’s national early evening news program and CBC Newsworld’s Hemispheres, bringing a unique global perspective on foreign events and international issues.

Hanomansing has been a reporter with CBC Television News since 1986, covering a wide range of stories including the Exxon Valdez oil spill (1989), the Los Angeles riots (1992), Vancouver’s post-Stanley Cup riot (1994), the handover of Hong Kong in 1997 and three Olympic Games.

As host of CBC Newsworld’s Pacific Rim Report and Foreign Assignment between 1995 and 2000, his assignments took him to Asia, including the Philippines, Japan and Viet Nam.

Hanomansing has also hosted and co-developed innovative news specials, including Downtown Drugs: A Night on the Streets (1998), a two hour live special from Vancouver’s downtown Eastside; TV On Trial (2002), where viewers saw criminal lawyers cross examine high profile witnesses and a jury to try to decide whether television cameras should be allowed in Canadian courtrooms, and in 2004, Homeless: Live on the Street, a two hour live special program which looked at the problems facing homeless people across the country as well as some possible solutions.

In addition to his work on numerous programs and specials, he hosted Still Talking Hockey, a late night talk show which aired in B.C. in the spring of 2004.

Hanomansing was born in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad and grew up in Sackville, New Brunswick. He graduated with an honors B.A. in political science and sociology from Mount Allison University in Sackville, and a law degree from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. While in university, Hanomansing won six national university debating and public speaking championships.

He began his broadcasting career at CKDH Radio in Amherst, Nova Scotia and worked at radio stations in Moncton and Halifax before joining CBC Television in Halifax.

the media in toronto or canada is so diverse, different ppl with different english accents. i just love that about this country.. u dont usually see this in many western countries. i actually met him once, he is just sooo goood looking!

Re: the only reason i watch CBC news.

So you watch CBC because of him alone?

I watch CBC because I actually get to watch Canadian news, latest happenings in and outside the country, and many other interesting segments such as Venture, and the 30 minute special (or whatever it is called) everynight where they cover a different topic in detail every night. It's better than watching American news that has nothing useful or sensible to offer.

Re: the only reason i watch CBC news.

^ well that too.

they have good documentaries and totally unbiased news.
i just love the way he presents news.

Re: the only reason i watch CBC news.

I personally like Peter Mansbridge. The guy is like encyclopedia of issues. He is the true genius in Canadian broadcasting. He has won many Int'l awards for news anchorship and broadcasting.

suroor, well there is always a bit of biasness, but CBC News is definitely better than any other Canadian or American news channel.
