The one aspect of our history...

…If you are talking to someone who is unfamiliar with Pakistan’s history, and there was only ONE aspect of Pakistan’s history (either up until 50 years back, or, in the context of the larger sub-continental framework and Muhammad bin Qasim’s invasion in 711 AD), that you could discuss with them in detail - what would it be? i mean to say, what one event/individual is the MOST important detail for you vis-a-vis Pakistan’s history - without which, any explanation of Pakistan is incomplete?

Some people feel overwhelmed by the beauty and archaeological grandeur of Mohenjodaro, Taxila and Harappa, and the centuries of history literally written into the bricks of the Grand Trunk Road. Maybe the Buddhist ruins in Taxila are what you feel most proud of in the sense that - this was an area where different cultures, beliefs, and religions all intermixed.

What one aspect is most significant for you? For me, i don’t know… i can still pick up a book on Quaid-e-Azam and “feel” that a politician like him, will never be mirrored in the world today. Without his sacrifices (not just for Muslims but remember his speeches advocating that citizens are ‘free to go to their temples, mosques, churches’ etc), where would we all be today without the political accomplishments of this one man?

you know kid you have been taught pak history by some real fool.

ask any one who lived thru partition and thru the muslim movements before, and they'll tell you he was just a figurehead, who no doubt became a leader that nobody else could have been in the last 10 yrs when it became crucial, but the actual movement had too many other stars to talk of only Quaid each time.

he was riding on a wave jis kaa bahao bauhat pehlay say taiz ho raha thaa.

iqbal, maulan jauhar, sir syed were truly as great politically and i dont understand why we forget them in extolling the quaid.

:rotfl:

No one had as greater a vision as Sir Syed Ahmed Khan. Now that’s a hero. :k:

ghulail, nadz gave her own opinion of who and what she thought mattered to her... just because u dont agree, doesnt make it wrong :)

It was Iqbal...

The man who started it all, the man with the vision and the sight...that could look decades into the future. A philospher, a thinker, a poet unparalleled in history.

Please, don’t forget, an avid drinker. :k:

no ones born perfect...

Everyone makes mistakes...early on in life. Everyone falls...what matters is how you rise up.

Iqbal kee shairy meiN sharab ka khasa amal dakhal tha. Don’t call it a mistake. :hoonh:

Do you really think that kind of shairi...came out when he was drunk?

I mean...there have been past greats...who were great when drunk....but the kind of shairi that would make a whole nation rise up, is not a result of sharaab.

Unjustified assumptions...

LOL. who the hell cares if he was a drunk.
Thats his own problem, his personal piety is no concern of mine.
what is important is his life work and his achievements which were unquestionably great.
