This sounds pretty neat I’m sure all of at one point imagined that we would click a button and food would appear. What do you all think, is this possible in the near future? Would you get one of these printers?
Fancy a tiny, puffy pastry popping out from your printer?
Researchers at the Cornell Creative Machines Lab are experimenting with 3-D food printers, envisioning them as the next It appliance for restaurants and home kitchens – digital gastronomy, if you will.
Using edible “inks” and digital blueprints, their latest printer, Fab@home , can make precise, novel treats, from perfectly shaped Austrian sugar cookies to scallops shaped liked miniature homes or space shuttles, if that’s more your speed.
“It’s digital cooking,” says Jeffrey Lipton, a mechanical engineering PhD student who worked alongside molecular gastronomy pioneer Dave Arnold of the French Culinary Institute.
Together they are conjuring new forms for the foods we’ve come to know, with the hopes of making them more delectable.
The technology is nascent, and so far only produces raw food, but “it is conceivable that a printer would also cook the material as it prints,” said Hod Lipson, head of the Cornell lab.
Re: The next It appliance for your kitchen? A 3-D food printer (really)
wow!!! a printer that cooks and prints edible food. i've read everything now. What's next? Faxing food around. ok that would be cool...
haha, you know I bet that could be done too. You fax the order and the person has a food printer so the food gets printed on their end. OMG bluey, we just came up with a new product idea hi5

This ones really cool. Made me remember that joke about believing in technology advancements when a printer can deliver food for you. Its like its already happening!!
And faxing food will be SO SO cool!!!! if that ever happens that is =D

because I don’t like sci-fi shows but I’ve seen this one because my brother used to watch it. Fine fine, from now on I won’t be embarrassed that I’ve seen star trek
