The need to belief and religion

**The need to belief and religion

Question: In rich countries where the income average is high and there are all means of good life, entertainment and luxury, man doesn’t feel he needs religion or believing in God, what can urge man to look for God or be religious at those countries?

Question: What does man need in the west in addition to scientific progress that gives him all his needs?

In rich countries where people find all the needs of tangible life, man feels psychological troubles, impatience, there are many psychological diseases and there are many suicide accidents. Statistics show that the richest countries are the Scandinavian countries, Sweden, Norway and Denmark, they have the most suicide average in the world, and this is because man is dual configuration. Everything in those countries is just to satisfy the needs of the body but there is nothing to satisfy the heart, the feelings or the soul. This only comes by religion and believing in God, believing in God gives confidence to the soul, tranquility to the heart, expands the breast, belief makes the spirit gets higher and inspire the body to be satisfied with God and feel His support, His guidance and His care, this is the equilibrium or the evenness to man, God says about this in the Koran:

“Whoever works righteousness, man or woman, and has Faith, verily, to him will We give a new Life, a life that is good and pure and We will bestow on such their reward according to the best of their actions”

Surat An’nahl, Verse 97****.****

Re: The need to belief and religion

The question is wrong … and the answer is inadequate …

Re: The need to belief and religion

First of all having luxuries is not the cause of disbelief - the Middle East is full of people with both luxuries and beliefs.
Second, if people have not worked out that they need belief then there is something wrong with the way they are educated. Critical Thinking has been removed from their ability to think clearly.
One resolution is to encourage the learning of formal thought, philosophy and logic.
Next, Muslims have a big responsibility we try to spread faith by preaching … However, doing free and voluntary services for the whole society and caring for all people, animals, plant life and preserving eco-systems and habitats is a form of soft dawah - It shows to the unbelieving mind that we are not selfish and do not worry about getting material benefit because our calling is from a higher cause. In my experience the West are really looking for guidance …

Re: The need to belief and religion

Nice topic IMO :k:
Wealth and poverty are the tests for us. While it is generally true for man in both conditions richness and poverty, man tends to be less God fearing even if he is a believer. If it is country of disbelievers he lives in, he could become completely indifferent to God. So the key is to stick to practice and self-evaluation. Think of your mistakes and immoral acts you have done entire day and mend it.
If you cannot or dont want to see what is moral/immoral with others you would not see in yourself either.

People have become materialistic is true. Even in urban areas of country like Pakistan people’s aim is to satisfy their worldly and body needs. We need to change this behavior. This is becoming extremely selfish, mean and damaging the society.

Re: The need to belief and religion

Scandinavian countries don’t have the highest suicide rates. Pakistan, Bangladesh, India and many more countries have higher suicide rates.

Also, Scandinavian countries aren’t necessarily “richest” per se, rather in Scandinavia, attempts are made to distribute the wealth evenly. In Scandinavia you have liberal and pluralistic societies, where people are judged on whether they contribute positively to society or not, and not on basis of ethnicity, religion and other such dividing factors.

Scandinavian countries are also among the foremost when it comes to humanitarian principles. If anything, most of the world has much to learn from Scandinavia than vice versa when it cones to creating good societies.

Re: The need to belief and religion

In short, Scandinavian countries are the most Shariah compliant countries in the world.

Re: The need to belief and religion

Religion is not for everyone, some people don’t find any solace in religion, and if they don’t, its better to accept them as they are, rather than force them to lead a type of life which they do no want to lead. Everything need not start and end at religion for everyone.

As long as you are contributing positively to society, it need not matter if you pray to or believe in god(s) or not.

Re: The need to belief and religion

This is unlikely to happen without belief. Without belief you will do it for show off or more material gain that cannot be positive. Well we have this debate several time on this forum.

Re: The need to belief and religion

Or you might do it for these two points

  1. It benefits you and your loved ones.
  2. You want to leave a good society/world behind for your children

Belief is really an insignificant factor, when it comes to contributing positively to a society.
