The Nawaz Paradox

So Nawaz Sharif gives a statement every few days that he will either lead a long march, or the PPP-led government has failed at every level, that the government needs to make way for early elections etc. – and these statements have come with amazing regularity since Marc or April this year. Yet he ALSO keeps stating that he will support the system and will not actively work overthrow it.

This is a perplexing state of affairs. Either he believes that making self-contradictory statements is clever politics, or he wants to send the message (in a very convoluted way) that he is powerless to overpower the current regime, or he is simply confused and hence has to flip-flop ever few days. I don’t get it – surely we can expect more coherency from the so-called leader of the opposition?

Re: The Nawaz Paradox

Long may the v. v. friendly opposition or* teetar batere ka khel* continue

someone needs to remind Nawaz that match ka halftime kab ka khatam ho chuka .. it is time to step on the gas!

Re: The Nawaz Paradox

Doesn't he realize that he is discrediting himself? OR has he been given some assurance by Zardari that keep up the act and I'll ensure the seats come election time?

Re: The Nawaz Paradox

his paradox, hmm just to be next government at ISB, how when and who decides, He wait for signal from his masters and their masters(KSA > USA). He assume that by following them is the only key to his come back as PM of Pakistan. there is no real opposition he offered to Zardari only "noora kushti". Otherwise without the real support from him and being in power in 50% of Pakistan masses, he could loose Punjab and take centre with it.

so they playing waiting game! absolutely there is no purpose to serve the people of Pakistan but to give one turn to PPP and then wait for own and this game goes on!!!

Re: The Nawaz Paradox

Yes another one just two days back, sensing that PMLQ was leaving the government NS hinted that they could negotiate with the party if it left the government but the very next day they went back to PPP...NS knows well that he wont win the next elections thats why he is trying to begin his negative tactics again...

PMLN is carrying out a dharna against loadshedding today, I wonder when they will carry out a long march against the handling of dengue by "dengue e aala"?

Re: The Nawaz Paradox

NS is at best an opportunist who would compromise to any extent once he sees the power coming to him..

Having said that his stance in the APC against the army establishment when he said there can be no smoke without fire was commendable.. and required a lot of courage specially when everyone knows that you have to be on the right side of the establishment to come in power.. It could mean two things.. he is not interested in taking over the federal government for the time being where you have to take harsh decisions.. or you have learnt your lessons from the past and want to say what is correct irrespective of the consequences..

I think the first reason is more likely to reflect his mind set presently..

Re: The Nawaz Paradox

Well after the APC came the loadshedding and the excerpts from the different stake holder's of the party are in the open too. Keeping in mind the problems on our borders and the worse impact of dengue especially in Lahore, the Sharif's asked their party members to try exploit the fluid situation and hence laying the "dengue mukao campaign" to rest...who is responsible for the loss to public property due to those riots now? Chota Sharif??

As far as Lahore is concerned these are my observations:

The condition of Lahore has overall deteriorated (I wonder what the situation would be in the rest of Punjab) during this government of Shahbaz Sharif.

1) the roads are in a very bad condition (no repairing mechanism in place)

2) filth every where (I wonder where LSWM has gone, no wonder why we cant control the mosquitoes and dengue)

3) I cant see the Parks and Horticulture Authority vehicles which used to water the green belts

4) traffic signals not operational and the traffic wardens not present hence driving a vehicle has become a night mare

Re: The Nawaz Paradox

I agree, perhaps the condition of the state is such that leading the federal government is not a preferable outcome for PMLN, hence it will choose to stay at the sidelines, opportunistically providing lip-service to hot-issues of the day yet effectively doing nothing substantial about them. Apparently this strategy would suite their top leadership the most, I'm certain there is much dissatisfaction elsewhere in the party.

Re: The Nawaz Paradox

I think the man is like many before him… he marches back and forth for this struggle or that struggle but he is so lazy and greedy that his opponents can simply out manouver him or buy him out… so he is nothing more than another tool of the system… Down with them all. :dhimpak:

Re: The Nawaz Paradox

How is it new? Didn’t one of MQM’s worker already mentioned such training as confession?
