the namesake

has anyone read the book? is it any good? i know the movie is releasing next month.

im interested in reading desi-type fiction novels…ive heard of one called The Haveli..anyone know about that?

can anyone recommend other titles? thanks!

Re: the namesake

The book is really entertaining ... I couldn't relate to it, but it's a good read.

I don't like the guy who they have cast as the lead in the movie. He's good in comedies, but I can't see him doing a serious role. I just don't take him seriously.

Re: the namesake

yes book is SO good!

hopefully...movie will b good too...isnt tabu in it?

Re: the namesake

tabu, kal penn ..forgot who plays the father

Re: the namesake

I read it last year...it was a good book..i didn,t like the ending!

Re: the namesake

i started snoring halfway thru the book. im sure its a great book but its just that…it…makes…me…so…

irfan khan plays the father in the movie.

Re: the namesake

I wrote like 3-4 papers on that one book, and that was just for one class for one semester :stuck_out_tongue:

I liked the book..story was very interesting, very sad in some parts…some of hte characters just pissed me off to no end, esp the whiny “I’m a ABCD< I dont know what I am, am i gori am i desi, i’m neither blahblahblah blah!” jsut annoyed the heck outta me. But i’d definitely read it if i were you. :k:

Re: the namesake

You know when I frist started reading that book, I pictured Kal Penn as playing Gogol/Nikhil if the movie ever came out.. and then I found out he WAS playing the lead role

I’m psychic :lifey:

Re: the namesake

Moth Smoke is a good book..

Re: the namesake

I read the book sometime last year. It was alright. It dragged at times and I did a lot of skimming.
I do want to see the movie though.

Re: the namesake

I've read the book. I decided to read it because I LOVED her short stories (Interpreter of Maladies). The book is okay, entertaining generally, and the characters maintain a distance from the reader. I don't really feel for them. They actually made me angry at times and I found it upsetting.

I do feel the movie will be good.

Re: the namesake

I hated Moushumi.

Re: the namesake

^ YES -- She made me so ANGRY.

Re: the namesake

UrgH! I'd say so much more but then I'd be spoiling.

I din'tt hink her character was poorly written, I thought seh was just a very poor character'ed person :D

Re: the namesake

^Yeah.

I think it does say something about the talents of the author who can create characters that can make readers so mad.

Re: the namesake

Completely different subject matter in the two books. Typical desi reply...forget about the talk at hand and start throwing in your own stuff.
