Can someone explain this concept to me. Using reference if possible, because whenever I try to sell my stuff online, on kijiji or craigslist, and a muslim brother happens to contact me, they always say one thing “We’re muslim brothers, c’mon give me a big discount please?”
Now, I’m not familiar with this concept. Can someone explain please! What is this “Muslim brother discount”?
Haha! There should not be any scriptual references (I sure hope not). It’s just a way to get a discount. Theres the Brown Discount and Chinese Discount as well. Whatever works to save some money!
I understand that he is my brother, but then isn't he ripping me off? Infact he should trust me more with the item, knowing I wouldn't lie to him about it!
I think you have to be fair when it comes to commerce and trade, I don't think the Muslims in Medina ever traded differently with other Muslims than they did with the Jews or Christians.
thats such an arbitrary place to draw the line. why not unity in mammalhood?
"Your own?"
Last I looked, we were all human beings.
One identity doesnt preclude another. I presume you have a circle of friends and family, then you have a particular society you are a part of. As group identities go, humanity is pretty much down the list.
doesnt mean its not on the list somewhere ofcourse.

oho.. im sure with a jew or christian he'd have asked for a ahle kitab discount ;)
nothing wrong with leveraging your commonalities to drive a bargain.
I'm a Muslim brother. I'll do you a favor and take your stuff off your hands for free :p.
I've gotten "Muslim brother discounts" at pizza places and even at some halal stores/restaurants. Though I guess it has more to do with me being regular/known by someone at these places rather than just being Muslim.
There was this halal pizza place that gave us a discount on their pizzas since we bought them for some masjid function. Some people also tend to give us discount if we're buying the food for jamaats.

Thats different, its for a good cause.
As for deals offered for trade or sell, You already give a good bargain, yet they want to haggle you down more with this "C'monnnnnnn we're muslim!".
I understand we are, I'm doing the best I can, I cant ripp myself off, its not just, is it?
Sleazy attempt at scoring something for less than it’s worth. The “muslim” brotha should realize that by cheating you of the goods’ value, he is committing a sin. It’s no different than giving someone damaged good because he/she is paying you less. (psssttt a practicing muslim wouldn’t even ask for a discount and pay what the item is worth. Only an Asian muslim would lol j/k )
Now on a non-religious perspective:
Tell him to find it at a lower price elsewhere, you’re selling it at the lowest price possible and need that exact amount.

The society you have chosen is based on arbitrary standards which you have projected onto strangers. The more we label people and decrease our ability to identify with others, the more alone we become.
We're all a global society. I take offense to those who wish to exclude others for the mere reason that they might not share a specific set of beliefs to match your own.
(and in doing so, you pass a judgment of value onto those who you do not view within your "group," and demean them.)

I absolutely make moral judgements based on what I believe are peoples beliefs.. Their actions and percieved motivations. So do you and everyone who claims to be above it.. It is a capacity as ingrained as toolmaking and as vital for human development.
So what if they cause differences it is merely because these differences are real. What you see as causation I merely see as acknowledgement

I see what you're saying. If they wanted to be good Muslim brothers, they would think of how they can be of benefit to you rather trying to take advantage of you.

And you support a buffoon like Obama? Do you know that everything you just said is against what the bleeding heart liberals believe in. As a matter of fact they will label you a racist and a bigot for these views.
domestic policy, republicans have right to some extent, as far as federalism and support for personal and economic freedom is concerned (this is before big govt conservatism overtook the party). were this the party it was till reagan, it would be great.
Unfortunately the aspiration to reform the world in your image is a very liberal tendency, and these days the republicans have more of a globalist/interventionist agenda than the liberals.
Obama is much less of an interventionist than McCain, and McCain does in no way stand for fiscal or social liberty. If someone reflecting republican values was running, Id support him over Obama. That assumes the person supports small government (included: reduced military spending not just reduced social spending), less domestic or foreign interventionism (a liberal/neo-con trait), free markets and self interest as first rate social pillars (McCain has a dim view of self interest and is big government when it comes to economics).
Just being opposed to gay marriage and anti abortion doesnt mean jack.
