Right after the month of Muharram, we are now in the month of Saffar. Its the second month of Islamic calendar. Since my early childhood days, my naani and my mother used to increase their prayers and charity a lot during this month. They always say “ye bhaari maheena hai”. Increasing prayers and charity is only a good and so from that point on, I have made it my practice too.
What I am not sure is about the “bhaari pann”. I have not done a lot of reseach on this, but I am assuming it is based on some ahadeeth. Atleast some part of this are added later by the unique sub-continental culture of superstitions. Like “taiz tera”, which apparently means that 13th of Saffar is a bad day. One time, the imam at Friday sermon in Lahore tackled this subject and said that a lot of “don’t travel during Saffar” etc advise originates from Hindu customs of badd-shagooni kinda stuff. Not sure.
Does anyone of you have any credible references on this topic, or even any personal experiences or family advice, if any, about the month of Saffar?
