The thing is, it depends where you come from. If you are based in Pakistan, I support what is being said.

However, if you live in the West, women have adequate protection in place by the law of the land (which is implemented, unlike Pakistan) - especially when it comes to divorce and familial finances

East or West, all lands belong to Allah. His law is for those in Pakistan and even the women in the West who have adequate protection as you say. Its not about supporting it if its only for Pakistan or some other third world country. If men are to obey Allah wherever they are living then they will give their wives this right which Allah has already given them.
