today there was a person on the road..he was really extremely skinny…i dont know if he was handicapped…we were driving by and i only got a glimpse of him…but his legs were deformed and extremely skinny and not shaped properly…he was placed in a strange way on a cement trolley…the one that construction workers use…
another person was pushing that trolley and begging
ive never seen a living human body placed like that…
my dad was telling me that a few blocks down from our house he either heard of or met a beggar who paid to got his leg or legs amputated…so that ppl would take more pity on him and give him more money..
there is another girl near civic center roundabout…her face is totally deformed b/c of acid and she has a little boy with her and they both beg..
beggars who r withut both arms or both legs r such a common sight now that its become usual to see them..
i saw a beggar who was without both legs cross the road once…his legs were missing starting from right under his middle body…he would put his hands on the road…and balance his body on his hands, swing it and then repeat this..very quickly…till he crossed the road..
last week there was a murder near shahrah-e-faisal and the corpse was lying there on the road..for many many hours because no one wanted to take it to the morgue…the edhi ambulance came and then took it…
Nobody want to beg, Some beg because of bad health and unable to work.
Depending on Country and etc….
In America if you are homeless you can eligible for many programs
Like a vacation trip
Free food
Free housing
Free Medical
Believe me poor people are fat in America.
They don’t beg for food.
They want other stuff…
Philosophically every body beg to achieve their goals.
And everybody have their own style.
What is your style of asking for thing ………
Out of all I like the place where people beg for salvation. They believe begging is Devotion and what you get is Salvation to life.
A lot of those handicapped and severely disabled beggers if not born that way were actually kidnapped or even sadly sold to gangs as children who purposely mutilate their bodies so they can exploit them as beggers.
I remember a teacher if mine in Karachi was telling me how his friend's son 'disappeared' around his early teens. Years later a family friend recognised him burnt and mutilated begging outside the fort in Lahore. The poor kid was so afraid to even respond when the friend had called his name cause he was being watched by the people who had done this to him.
Anyhow he was reunited with his family underwent extensive plastic surgery and I imagine psychological counseling too.
It's a seriously @#@!)$*ed up world we live in. Our country has a lot more serious problems then people becoming 'too liberal'.
Absolutely true. The poor people in America tend to be severly obese. Even the bums on the street are fat. They have giant food depositories where surplus food is kept and then distributed to the various homeless shelters, also food coupons, and welfare is also available. In fact, poor people here are fatter than the rich people. The rich tend to eat healthy and exercise.
I can never understand why anyone would want to disable him/herself for the sake of money.
Only psychopaths would do such a thing to themselves.
IMHO, we shouldn't give a single penny to the beggars. They have to learn to make money the right way. Even if they were kidnapped and abused I still wouldn't give my money away just like that. I'd rather give it to a mosque or a servant than to a beggar.
I remember in Islamabad where I used to live, I came across a child around 11 selling balloons. He was following people around in his dingy clothes, unkempt hair trying to sell balloons to grown people. I felt sorry so I gave him ten rupees. He offered me two balloons, one for five. I said keep them beta, and tried to walk on.. he ran after me.. kept saying balloon ley lo bhai, warna paisey ley lo.
Isi tarah.. my sister once gave five rupees to a small pathan boy.. and he cried until she took the rose for it.
If you expect people to live upto your notions of decency your ideas of reform, credit them with the same feelings that motivate you. Its a form of cruel judgementalism.. and a way of appeasing moral queeziness. You might think it was cruel for you to disdain them they way you do, if you didnt have such a brilliant idea for how they could right themselves.
Usi halat may ek bhooki botched billy aa jaye gi and half of you would be awwww bechariiiiii kuch khila doo..
It is never a career choice. It is never easy for college students to beg, regardless of how poor they are. I've seen that
There's nothing wrong with selling balloons and roses. I'd certainly purchase'em or just give'em the money. At least they're making an effort to make money through proper channels.
I wouldn't differentiate when it comes to hunger, however, I'm not at all in accord with giving money to beggars. If it's someone old then yes I may be generous. Otherwise no generosity towards beggars who are able to work.
Don't forget most of the 'oh I'm hungry...plz gimme money for food' type beggars aren't really looking for food. Even if you offer to feed them the best stuff, they'd turn down your offer.
On the other hand, I faintly remember some beggars asking for food and accepting the offer. That is because they were genuinely looking for food.
