The Mandela Effect

Have you guys heard about this? Of all the strange theories I have heard about recently, this puzzles me the most. Basically, Mandela Effect became known because of people remembering Nelson Mandela passing away in the 80’s but if you google, he died recently in 2013. Do you remember anything like that? There are many other things that we collectively remember as something but in reality, it is something else altogether. Do people of different generations process memories differently? If not, then why do older and younger people remember things differently, as if each group shares a memory that is different from the other group. For example, most people remember the phrase, ‘mirror, mirror, on the wall..’ but it actually is ‘magic mirror, on the wall’. Do you remember Darth Vader saying ‘Luke, I am your father’? You do, don’t you? I do too but it is incorrect. Darth Vader actually says ‘no, I am your father.’

There are so many other examples of the Mandela Effect and it really is mind blowing. Just go search it on youtube, you will find million of them. What do you think causes this phenomenon? Is it supernatural or is it because our memories somehow have a connection? Can millions of people share a same exact false memory? Is it parallel universes? It is time travel? What it is?

Re: The Mandela Effect

May be she saw the tank man episode just as it is in this video. I think when she was first seeing it she got afraid and thought that the man could have killed and when she slept that night or later on, she saw dream that the man is being killed by the tank. She might have seen that dream some more time and that remained in her mind as false memory.

Re: The Mandela Effect

^sure, but why do millions of people share the same memory? Are our memories connected?

Re: The Mandela Effect

This is related to how we think, store and recall. A primary school teacher year after year sees the same mistake commited by different students. And yes what mistake I did in my 4th standard perhaps sombody is now doing it. Suppose I misspelled a perticular word in a poem, many could have misspelled it in past and many will misspell it. When I was in hostel I observed that students hide soap above walls in bathrooms. I know where in room students hide cigarettes, even now if I go to my college hostel I can find soap and ciggarette. So generally people strive to make things simpler and you will find silly mistakes they commit are more or less same. If 100 people are given a chess board with a similar game situation, I think many people's move would be same.

Re: The Mandela Effect

If they can think in similar pattern, do same thing in a similar condition, commit similar mistakes then it is likely that they share false memory as well.

Re: The Mandela Effect

Agreed. Makes me think we are connected in ways we can't perceive. Maybe our brains really do telepathically communicate at some level with other humans much like electromagnetic waves.

Re: The Mandela Effect

What I mentioned are common things that I think is related to thinking process but sometimes uncommon things do happen. Once I was just started singing a rare song in my mind and that very moment a man starts singing the same song. This made me think of telepathy thing. I also thought that the song might be playing at radio and we both catched it though I take it as coincidence. Also sometimes when I am about to call my mother, her call comes.

Re: The Mandela Effect

We were driving today. A jagjit Singh ghazal.was playing. Lyrics was- aaram hi aaram hai.

I looked up. The highway sign said Rest Haven next exit.

This is a coincidence. Maybe tangentially related.

Re: The Mandela Effect

Interesting. It could be like, our minds follow same process while relating/referencing an event to memory segments written in brain. 80's mean 10 years span atleast. Mandela was released from jail in 90's. Maybe that is how our mind responds to casual/random requests of fetching something from sub-conscious memory to conscious memory.

Re: The Mandela Effect

Even if our brains process memories similarly, how can the false memories be so accurately shared by millions and billions of people. This is where I am having trouble. For example, how can millions of people remember a word that was never spoken. It makes me think that we are either supernaturally connected like a superorganism or there's something else at play.

Re: The Mandela Effect

I swear I have read this same thread in 1995 also

Re: The Mandela Effect

Billo zinda hai..aaj bhi Billo zinda hai :icono:

Re: The Mandela Effect

Same case with deja vu it like something has changed but our minds know it

Re: The Mandela Effect

People thought Nelson Mandela died in the 80's? That's news to me. I always remembered that he was released from prison in the 80's. Anyhow, I've never heard of phenomenon but what seems plausible to me, especially in this time, is that it is easier to be misinformed with the internet and all the different information sources.

We are all related so maybe its possible?

Nice to see you here also Theorist!

Re: The Mandela Effect

Where else did you find me? I am only registered as Theorist on GS.

Re: The Mandela Effect

I guess it's his false memory. Let us see who else share this other than TLK and Dude111.
