hey man visit GOA. r u male or female then i can tell u the places accordingly
Re: The Maharaja Train.
i wanted to try the maharaja train lekin i was on a working vacation and i had to stick to places with broadband access, plus i think it was completely booked for ages, so… in 3 months, i covered the following-
North - Delhi, Agra, Amritsar
West - Jaipur, Jodhpur, Ranthambhore (tiger sanctuary), Jaisalmer
Deccan - Pune, Mumbai; Murud-Janjira and Goa (for beaches)
South - Made Bangalore my HQ. From there traveled to Kabini, Mysore, Chennai (Madras), Pondicherry, Hyderabad
Delhi and Agra - i loved the old monuments but i found the city very stifling and dirty, but South Delhi is nice. Taj experience was surreal. I loved the havelis, forts and rustic charm of Jaisalmer, not to mention the camel safaris. The attractions in Amritsar are Golden Temple and Wagah Border, otherwise it’s a quiet place… oh yeah, and i forget the name of this one dhaba, locals told me abt it and the food was just
Pristine beaches of Goa are a treat, Calangute and Kolva are really nice and clean… don’t forget to eat lunch at one of the shacks on the beach. Kabini in the South is great for a weekend getaway, you really to see the wild animals up close. Pondicherry is also nice for a weekend getaway, main attraction there is Auroville. Hyderabad… lovely place. go see Charminar, Mecca Masjid (or what’s left of it
) Chow Mahalla is also very nice. If you like hiking/trekking, there are lots of opportunities almost everywhere…
I preferred homestay tourism to hotels. So i stayed at a proper haveli in Rajasthan and homes of local ppl in other places, and i think it definitely added value to my trip.
I have a travelogue in progress on AD, you can chk it out.. if interested, i can recommend an excellent host in Rajasthan who can help you arrange your North trip… any other help you need, just PM me.
Re: The Maharaja Train.
^wow you've been to so many places. It must have been hectic though to see all that in 3 months.
I personally would like to see parts of Himachal Pradesh and Ladakh when I feel brave enough :). The scenery of Himachal P. looks so breathtaking in pictures so i'm thinking it would be even more beautiful when i'm right there.
Anybody ever been to either of the two places? Give me any place with cool weather and nice scenery and i'll be fine(hate blazing :( hot weather).
Re: The Maharaja Train.
Himachal Pradesh: Shimla has a beautiful old british colonial charm. A lot of apple orchards nearby.
Chail nearby is nice quiet hill station -the history of this place is facinating.
The Dalia Lama's palace is in Dharmshalla and you can see a lot of Buddhist culture there. A lot of old refugees from Tibet.
Solan - one of the oldest breweries
Palampur/Kulu/Manali etc all have their own charm.
Re: The Maharaja Train.
thanks indopak. yeah, it was rather hectic considering i had to work fulltime, but my motto is work hard, play harder ;) next time i'd like to cover the himalayan regions and chk out the Sunderbans.
i have a bunch of adventurous friends in india. some of my trips i did solo, and on some they accompanied me. one of them covered Ladakh and Sikkim solo, and came back with some amazing pictures.
btw ladies, there is this lady in india who runs a women only travel group called WoW (women on wanderlust), you can google it for info; but it's a buncha professional women who go on trips.. they've been trekking in the himalayas, driving trip in new zealand, done Ladakh, etc. if you don't wanna go solo this is a great option.

malhot and Namkeen, thanks for all the info on traveling to Himachal P and Ladakh. Hopefully I can make the trip some time soon.
malhot, have you actually been to Himachal pradesh or did you grow up there?
Re: The Maharaja Train.
Indopak - I used to live in Chandigarh and my work involved travelling all around Himachal Pradesh, large parts of Punjab and Haryana.
I have stayed in most cities in HP, and sometimes travelled through the remote areas. The scenery is beautiful, the people simple & friendly and the cold wind was exhilerating.

After a long thought, I finally figured who you are....lol Alhamdolillah! Am gr8 and u? So still into "chat patti cheezein" like myself? Hahaha, reminds me of when I had my own restaurant..... omelet with ginger? I need to try it out.
My jogging is so so. I did follow my brothers into 3rd track, but then I couldnt push it any further. Not digging y-tubes as long as it is ramzan. A break from usual habits is refreshing. Stil a workaholic and yes, my loving family are all great and well. Even mama jaan, her bloodsugar level is stable. Ive been cooking euro food, steaks and sauces..with lots of greens. Lesser roti...lol
So hoping you are still getting rotten spoiled by your own mother, as I am now and then....lol ok, all this was off topic. So, now you are into GS as the rest of the crowd ;-) Ahlen wa sahlen....
This life is TOO short to be naraaz with any.....
