The magical impact of repetition on our life

Some of us might think that in our daily life whatever we don’t really mean, but casually and “repeatedly” say, think, hear or watch only for fun, might not have any effect on our life, but few incidents I heard tell a different story.

1. A colleague of mine who used to claim that he doesn’t really mean it when he uses those commonly used abusive words in almost every discussion he joins, came to me crying that by mistake the same word came out of his mouth while he was having a discussion with his parents.

2. A Saudi Prince’s son went out with his friends on a long drive. The music was on in a loud voice and they were singing and laughing while driving, when suddenly they got an accident. All of them died except the Saudi Prince’s son, who was in “ Nazaa” ( a state between life and death)

When people started reciting**“Kalima ”** in front of him so that he may also recite, they heard him repeating the wordings of his favourite song. He died without saying Kalima. When asked from a scholar, the reply was “When you see the angel of death you get so afraid that unintentionally you would repeat the wordings which you hear, read, think or say the most in your life.(as a habbit) So this man didn’t hear or recite “Kalima” most of the times in his life.

Similarly when people tried to convince a “tangey wala” in Peshawar to recite Kalima after a severe accident, he was repeating “Kisa khwani bazaar ke itney paisey…..etc” because this is what he had been repeatedly listening to, thinking or saying most of the times in his life.

There are numerous other examples of people counting money even on their last breath.

p.s.** A man who dies while reciting Kalima would go directly go to heaven (Hadith)**

^ Devil knows this that is why he takes away all the time which was meant for Zikr and thus, in our spare time, instead of doing zikr we are unintentionally murmuring our favourite song.

Re: The magical impact of repetition on our life

Why does a 1-2 year old baby starts shouting “Pepi” “Pepi” when he passes by the sign board of Pepsi?

Because the Jewish companies owner are not wasting their money by spending billion of dollars every year only on Advertisements. They know that when something is presented to you in a beautiful and attractive way again and again, on your TV, on the sign boards, in the hands of famous people, on the shops, in the play grounds, on the shirts of players, …etc it plays a magical effect on your mind due to which one experiences the taste many times better than what he would have felt without watching any advertisement.

Re: The magical impact of repetition on our life

great post jazakallah brother, this is actually very true, i listen to alot of music i must admit, and even whn i am not listening to it, i am humming the song, recently thou ive been trying to do zikr, whn im walkin about rather than humming away a song !!

Re: The magical impact of repetition on our life

JazakAllah khair sister for the kind words of encouragement.

The out put (product) of any machine depends upon the input given to it/ or what we feed in it. If we give good spiritual food to our body through our ears, mind, heart and eyes, it would automatcially produce good output through our tongue and body in the form of good words and actions respectively

Re: The magical impact of repetition on our life

Awesome post STP! Thanks for the reminder.

Re: The magical impact of repetition on our life

What does being Jewish have anything to do with the above?

Re: The magical impact of repetition on our life

^ Didn't mean to blame the religon. What I meant to say was that one of the main reasons of successful business of jews around the world is that mostly they seem to know/learn better than others how to use this technique of repetition to create a good impression of their products.

Re: The magical impact of repetition on our life

It is amazing that I see 2-3 years old children singing "mera chain wain sab bigra...." and other stuff not familiar to muslim culture, but a lot of teenagers and even elders not knowing basic surah's and even namaz properly. I wonder in which direction would our coming generation lead this ummah....

May Allah (swt) bless our ummah specially the new generation with the blessing of "Imaan" and strength to take out muslim ummah from this difficult situation. Ameen.

Re: The magical impact of repetition on our life

STP, now analyze this, I try to recite Kalima any time and every time. But if I listen to a song I start singing that in my mind and forget reciting the kalima. I have to make a conscious effort to replace that song with the Kalima. I am struggling to recite kalima in my mind anytime and every time. I heard Dr. Farhat Hashmi saying that it is the Ism a Azam that is when I started this practice.
I am sure all the blessings of Allah I have are due to this conscious effort of mine to recite Kalima anytime and every time.
That being said it is not necessary that you sit in a corner and recite the tasbeh of Allah Tala. You can recite that tasbeeh while you are driving , while you are walking, while you are on treadmill, while you are eating . Any waking moment of your life while you are not thinking about anything meaningful. But it is an ongoing struggle.

Re: The magical impact of repetition on our life

"Pepi" "Pepi"

Well said Mirch and SindSagar bhai. JazakAllah khair for sharing.

In my childhood my parents used to present me the same thing in different gift packs. Some times they used to advise me in a joke when in a frank mood. Some times they used to advise me the same thing in a serious tone, sometimes in a sarcastic (yet positive) way. I always used to ignore them completely and did not use to give any importance to their words. whenever I used to show any sign of positive response, they used to reward me with minor things like taking me to my favorite park, buying me ice cream...etc.

Now, living away from them whenever I come across a problem in life, I recall their words. A lot of times I am unintentionally following all their advices without any conscious effort. It is all the magic of repetition which they did with wisdom without sounding boring.

I would like to share here that in my opinion (which might be wrong) there are two things that can't coexist in the same place. Music and remembrance (zikr) of Allah (s.w.t)

When I am ironing my clothes, polishing my shoes, working out in the Gym, or driving....etc. either I am singing or listening to any song to keep myself excited or my tongue is experiencing the sweetness of Darood sharif, kalma....etc. which warms my heart with feelings of purity.

BUT which one should I prefer to keep myself motivated ? Allah mentions this quality of a "Mo'min" in the Quran that their tongues are always fresh with the "Zikr" recitations of Allah either they are siting, standing or lying on soft beds.

BUT what benefit or harm do I get when I continue to do any of these activities in my life ?

One quality of zikr is that it removes the hurdles (troubles) from my way which are waiting for me (written in my fate) in the near future, but the greater benefit is that it makes zikr my strong habit.

What is the benefit of a strong habit ? Well, when one is totally confused and fearful one unintentionally performs one's strong habit as the mind is not working properly. like after knowing that there is an earthquake, due to intense fear I might unintentionally run towards the room which I visit most often. SO ?

So, when I see the angel of death at the time of death I would be so scared and fearful that unintentionally I would be following my biggest habit.

Either I would be able to achieve what is mentioned in the hadith " the person who is able to recite Kalma-e-Tayyab at the time of death would directly go to Jannah"

OTHERWISE, there are a lot of other cases. A person singing his favorite song, another counting money, another business talking,...etc. while people around them failed to understand why at the last moments the person is not reciting

"LA ILAHA ILLALLAHU MOHAMMADUR RASUL ALLAH"

May Allah bless us with the strength and wisdom to decide now, what we want to make our best habit before it is too late....

Re: The magical impact of repetition on our life

gr8 post STP.. God bless u :)

and mirch bhai! u find urself struggling to recite Kalma cz the satan uses his full force to stop u from doing that. so actually while doing zikr u are fighting as well against Satan. think of "Nafs" as a flowing river.doing zikr means swimming against the current. on the other hand a sinful thing always attracts us/our nafs, seems beautiful to us, thats why we dont have to put extra effort in it.

asaani se wahan behtay jatay hein jahan nafs ka darya baha le jata hae ! !

i had read some where k rastay mein rukaawat unhi k aati hae jin k pohanch janay ka darr hota hae. :)

Re: The magical impact of repetition on our life

^JazakAllah khair. In general discussions we don't realize that we use the same words that we hear in dramas and movies. Even at times people quote something from a movie and they feel that it might be a hadith.

Doctor Abdur Rahman mentioned that a person once said to him that in Quran "Allah says You work hard, I will also work with you". To which the doctor, who is also an expert of Islamic studies replied, "There is no such verse in the Quran. This is just a commonly used sentence in some of the arab movies"
