The Luxury of Velvet

I used to have at least one or two outfits that incorporated velvet and in a recent search through my closet I realized that there’s nothing left.

I’d like to get something made that has some major velvet elements…maybe as trim or maybe even an entire article of clothing (i.e. trousers or kameez or blouse) in velvet.

Please post some suggestions…unusual ones will always be preferred but whatever you can find…

Re: The Luxury of Velvet

Muzna, I was thinking the same yesterday that I need to get something made in velvet. Back in my collage days I used to have an Aline shirt with velvet bodice and wide trim on dupatta in velvet. Thinking of replicating that.
Also a double shirt with velvet and chiffon combo but I think I need to loose some weight before I can wear something like that again.

Re: The Luxury of Velvet

yeah....I really like the wide velvet borders that have been so popular recently......I want something like that but I want to go with a unique colour for the velvet....like aqua or teal

usually when you see velvet its in the traditional rich hues of deep red, royal blue or black......and I don't mind having a classic piece in that but I want something different.

Re: The Luxury of Velvet

I love velvet.

Currently in my wardrobe I have 2 outfits with velvet in them.

One is a white long dress style kameez with gold velvet borders and around the neck line and also the duputta.

The other is a loooong dark green velvet kameez with grey chooridar sleeves and grey trousers. The kameez has paisleys embroidered onto it.

Foolio, do a velvet with a pattern, not just some different hue.

I have a plain black and a black pinstripe velvet jacket, lets just say the plain one gets hardly any use. Pattern has power.

My mother has always liked velvet - she has this one suit that comes out in winter - all of us sisters have worn it at some stage or the other. It is a purplish subtle print - churidar pajama, long sleeveless kameez with a gorgette-lined deep gala, on the inside is a long sleeved top with the same material. The dupatta is the same purple gorgette used on gala but is lined with the velvet - the outfit is at least 10 years old! Will try to take a photo this weekend if you're interested?

Re: The Luxury of Velvet

It was definitely bought ready-made in Lahore - from what I remember you get great ready-made winter suits there.

^That sounds gorgeous, please post a picture!

Re: The Luxury of Velvet

Oh I love velvet. My mom had a bottle green maxi dress with the softest material, that I wore all through my teens and eventually made a long kurta out of it.

I was debating of getting one made with just a trim border. Saw this on one of the deisgner website and loved it (The one in the middle with orange). May get a variation of this made from her.

Well, since you did a drive by spam, is your murano glass handmade in Italy or factory machine mass produced from China? Do tell

catty…needs pics please…and same goes for you khatti…
X2…love the patterned idea…I have a navy blue velvet blazer with a pin stripe too…goes with almost any style…casual or not.

proto…do you ever fail to bring the best?
I like what you’ve shown but I want a different colour in the velvet. Black is very basic and although it is timeless I live to step outside the box a bit more now. Pata nahin kyun I just want an outfit that is unique.
Is there any way to get swatches to see what colour velvet is available in the market?

I really like this style with the net dupatta…but I want a different colour combo…and I think I might want to add the gold thread crochet border on the bottom too…hmmmmmm

Re: The Luxury of Velvet

you can make it in any colour. almost all colours are available in velvet and there is dyeable velvet available too so any colour is possible
