The Looks

Does make up really make a person more beautiful or it is just the media that has convinced us to think like that.

Is our perception of** beauty effected by “anything” **that might have trained our mind to relate beauty with certain things ?

I know people who think makeup kind of make a person’s looks some what artificial no matter how good it is, like sort of hiding the true beauty nature has blessed a person with.

Re: The Looks

i think it's a complex issue. i think makeup can enhance a person's 'looks', in the same way that a particular hairstyle might but it doesn't make them any more beautiful. those who see beauty in you will see it regardless of these things.
i don't think what has happened with the media in regards to makeup is that people feel they look ugly without it/more beautiful with it but rather that they feel they look naked and unkempt without.

Re: The Looks

It would be a lie if we think that physical beauty doesn't have much value especially when you are in the fashion forum. Yes while talking about beauty we should keep in mind aspect of internal beauty but we have to do things to make ourselves physically apealing for ourselves and even others. If I have ten thousand bumps on my skin and scars from acene, common sense would say that I apply creams and makeup to make myself look more presentable.

Re: The Looks

Suppose if a person asks, " Is it satisfactory to deceive oneself or one's beloved ones ?"

or

" Does a spouse likes the "original" or the original wrapped with a fake cover to deceive his / her eyes ?"

p.s. I personally neither criticize nor support make up. It is just to present few perspectives of people, which are not intended to offend anyone who uses makeup.

STP..do u mind if i ask u .. r u male or female?..first i thought u were male but after this thread i m not sure..

If you you don't then you can stay away from it. But there are plenty of people who love applying make up and dressing up, by doing so they are not faking or anything. It is something that makes them happy. If bare skin makes you happy, good for you!

Many spouses love their significant other to dress up, apply make up, etc.

I am also not criticizing you but presenting a perspective.

Re: The Looks

It makes sense. I agree that it depends a lot on the way people want to present themselves, in other words the way their psychology works.

It was just a topic I recently discussed with my wife who agreed to the views I presented above. We agreed that dressing up and making oneself presentable (yet natural) looks more appealing than bringing a major change in one's appearance by hiding something which nature has gifted us.

In short, she also thought that one shouldn't go to the extent that if someone sees the same person without makeup, he is deeply shocked.

p.s. Of course being a man, I personally don't like make up for myself just like most common men.

lol....he is a man

Re: The Looks

well, makeup is nothing in itself. its style of application make u beautiful or ugly.

o my god!! i thought he was a girl.. :S

Re: The Looks

Yes right amount of make up does enhance the beauty of a woman. Make up is something very ancient, probably invented by egyptions.

Re: The Looks

Well beauty isn't really a fact... its an idea or an opinion. I think clothes, make-up, and jewelry help define our personalities. I think make up helps people enhance their beauty.
