The Little Things

As you might know, the head of a company survived 9/11 because his son started kindergarten.

Another fellow was alive because it was his turn to bring donuts.

One woman was late because her alarm clock didn’t go off in time.

One was late because of being stuck on the NJ Turnpike
because of an auto accident.

One of them missed his bus.

One spilled food on her clothes and had to take time to change.

One’s car wouldn’t start.

One went back to answer the telephone .

One had a child that dawdled and didn’t get ready as soon as he should have.

One couldn’t get a taxi.

The one that struck me was the man who put on a new pair of shoes that morning, took the various means to get to work but before he got there, he developed a blister on his foot. He stopped at a drugstore to buy a Band-Aid. That is why he is alive today.

Now when I am stuck in traffic, miss an elevator, turn back to answer a ringing telephone … all the little things that annoy me. I think to myself, this is exactly where Allah wants me to be at this very moment..

Next time your morning seems to be going wrong, the children are slow getting dressed, you can’t seem to find the car keys, you hit every traffic light, don’t get mad or frustrated; Allah is watching over you.

May Allah continue to bless us with all those annoying little things and may we remember their possible purpose.

Re: The Little Things

every thing happens for a reason, some times we know it and some times we can never figure it out.

Great post! :k:

Re: The Little Things

Surah Anbiya mentions: Man is a creature of haste (and impatience). Wish we all start to trust Allah's timings and decisions.

Re: The Little Things

Imagine telling your boss you dont worry about getting to work on time. :smack:

Re: The Little Things

Think it this way too, for those few who survived because of these little things , there were 3000 more who ignored some little annoying thing and chose to go do their job, chose to fulfill their promises, chose to make it on time to their jobs , chose to do their duty diligently, chose to go and help others .
So does that mean that Allah was not watching over those folks who died due to collapse of those two buildings ?
It does not make any sense , does it ?
So what make sense ?
Allah watches over everybody , but everything has a pre-determined fate and pre-determined outcome. You keep on going with your life with this trust no matter whatever the outcome , it will be with the will of Allah , and be patient. If the outcome is according to your liking that is well and good , if it is not according to your liking there is some divine wisdom behind it.

@Mirch . I understand your point and it makes sense. But you see, here we are considering mostly those minor annoying things that are unintentional and not in our control. The purpose is to remain thankful to Allah (swt) even after a bad luck when something happens against what we had planned. Because by having this attitude it becomes easier to control oneself in an annoying situation as one has a reason to be patient, calm and thankful.

Re: The Little Things

I agree , but the original post implies that one should ignore annoyances because if you ignore those annoyances then Allah is watching over you and the outcome will be positive.
It might not be and then someone could get annoyed at Allah thinking that I ignored a annoyance but the outcome was still not positive and according to my wish and will.

Re: The Little Things

Ultimately YES, in this life and in hereafter, even though our limited mind might not always have the capability to understand the wisdom behind those outcomes. Whatever Allah (swt) decides is always for our best interest, even though apparently we might not always 'see' those blessings immediately.

In that case that person needs to understand that whoever puts his trust in Allah (swt) would never ever be disappointed in the long run. His understanding of a 'positive outcome' might not always be correct, but Allah (swt) always do that would be good for us in this life and hereafter, if we remain thankful, trust in HIM and make efforts in accordance to the ways of the Prophet (saw).

Re: The Little Things

Crime Master you forgot to address my point..

Cutting the long story short...and with respect to the workplace example you give:

Irrespective of whether on a day your workplace is destined to explode - the fact of the matter is that an employee has made a promise to his employer to be at work at a certain time. Islam says's, respectivly, that one should strive to fulfill thier promises. In the light of this, is it not incumbent on the employee to try his best to be at work on time, which includes becoming annoyed/displeased at those barrier's...

We should consider all the things in context ...the essence of the post is that being annoyed/displeased at things that obstruct you from fulfing a commitment to somebody is also an act of obidience to Allah (swt) - since any halal act is worship.
The fact that some on that day were saved because of being late to work is one of those special coincidence's, and if Allah (swt) willed he also could have saved them otherwise.

Re: The Little Things

^ This is another way of looking at it. I agree with your logical reasoning. It is completely natural/logical to get annoyed at the things that become a hindrance in our principles/daily routines/ duties..etc. but it is better not to let that annoyance/irritation get the better of us. The reasoning mentioned above are kind of consolation/food for thought to not let desperation influence our attitude/efficiency when anything wrong happens against our plannings, that was not in our control.

Re: The Little Things

^ Thats exactly what i mean Crimemaster. When looking at the logical and realistic side, one being annoyed/displeased at hindrances forming in the way to honour something like a promise is not only a natural but a praiseworthy intent.

The koran and hadith emphasize wafa/promise in many places.

I appreciate your point, but i think maybe the workplace example wasnt the ideal one for it...
