I would like to know why the Kaaba was built as big as it was. Is there any stated reason? I always thought it was relatively small, until I saw pictures of people standing near it. Its HUGE! Mash’Allah.
It was built by Ibrahim (A.S.) and Ismail (A.S.) as an offering to Allah (SWT)...
it was first built by Adam (AS) before Ibrahim and Ismaael (AS)
in the previous times, it also covered the area of "hateem" but later on it was left outside the boundary based on the reason the scholars have found that it was said that soon not all muslims will be allowed inside tha kaaba but the rulers and wealthier of the countries. So, hateem (a white little higher place than ground and surronded by a small boundary) is where everyone offer the two rakah after umra that are supposed to be done in side a kaaba..
According to Muslim historians in the times of Abdul Muttalib the son of Hashim, Quraish considered the Ka'abah too low in it's structure and hence demolished and rebuilt it larger.
I doubt independent archaelogists are let into these sites to ascertain the truth and real history of these landmarks.

i am sure u cud come up with a better word for what's termed as bait-Allah even in the Quran....
if u cud not show respect for Hadith, atleast u cud be more lenient when it comes to Quran....
When the Taleban demolished the Buddhas it would have been just as disappointing for those who thought they were sacred.
