How does it work in terms of who is entitled to what?

Is there a system or do most families just decide for themselves and if so how?

It would depend on who owns the house and who the heirs are. There's an inheritance calculator online if u google it. You put in all the relatives and stuff and it tells u what fraction everyone gets.

It all depends on where you live and if their was a will for the deceased, and if that will was drawn up per Sharia law or civil law and who the surviving heirs are. This is very complex matter, I don't think that there is a simple way to answer

Desi or not, Sharia law is commonly used to divide up the property for Muslims.

sharia cover's each family unit, not the entire clan, joint families.

Thats what I meant. If the property is owned by the parents, most probably they'll use shaira law to divide them up amongst all their sons and daughters who may still be be residing in the property with their partners and children. That's one definition of join family, right?

what if the property belongs to mother , then who will be entitled as per shariaya? Son ,daughters, husband, relatives?? Since property is in Pakistan.

Input the number of heirs, sons daughters whatever it asks for. It’ll tell u who gets what.

According to desi rule 22, subsection 4, the nand has the right to boss the newlywed masoom wife, unless overruled by MIL, in which case the latter will boss her around.

Under Islamic law, brothers and sisters also get part of the wealth. That's why people will draw up wills if they want to make sure their wealth goes to their spouse and kids only. Or they gift the wealth to their kids in their own lifetime so their brothers and sisters do not get it, as in most families, the siblings are on their own anyway.

Brothers and sisters only get wealth if u don't have kids, otherwise it's just ur parents and ur spouse and kids who inherit .from u.
