Re: The job market ...

**i dunno much but what i know is that it's bad summer job situation for university students. i've a niece and a nephew and they both go to different universities. my nephew is in final year of BSc and he found a job 3 years ago at his university and he has been holding on to this job eversince but my niece who just finished her first year university is unable to secure any job at her university. i must admit that she has NOT been looking jobs at retail stores. i suppose the funding for university students has dried up this year.

we hire 5 summer graduate students every year since 2005 but in 2009 we could only hire 3 students and that means more hard work for them b/c the 3 of them are doing worth 5 students' work. sad state of affairs indeed! :(**

Re: The job market ...

Yaar I am in England and have been looking for job since last 4 months since completing 2 post graduate diplomas! Working night shifts in sainsburys atm :-(

Re: The job market ...

Re: The job market …

One of my friends who has been doing ERP consulting for a decade now without a day of being on bench has now been on the bench for 8 months. :bummer:

Re: The job market ...

I am on the east coast and the situation seems much better here. I guess it also depends on the demand of the field you are in. Despite the fact that I do contractual jobs I was never out of the job even in 2008-2009 which was the worst period but then it's very hard to get in the field I am in so not many resources available to begin with.
But I see open vacancies every where even on retails stores and restaurants

Re: The job market ...

lots of doom and gloom tales in the amreeki finanical news media since the last few days. apocalypse is coming, hide yo dollas, hide yo wife, hide yo kids..

Re: The job market ...

^ LOL at the hide yo wife, hide yo kids.. we gown' find yooou so run and tell that, run and tell that, home bwoi home home home bwoiii.
And economy is crappy, tuition fees is increasing by £7000 a year, the conservatives are hell bent on destroying the welfare system and jobs are non-existent, but things will get better, eventually.

Re: The job market ...

When will things get better ?

Re: The job market ...

Well for the Brits once the deficit so kindly donated by our beloved bankers is finished things should start looking up and once the Conservative/ Liberal coalition ends, which doesn't look like it'll last long since they're trying to privatise and eventually 'American-ise' the national health system, the one thing I think everyone is proud of.
The current government thinks that the private industry will swoop in and save us, which I very much doubt, I think once they come to their senses they will try to encourage economic growth, as opposed to what they're doing now, all this is doing is putting more people on the dole which is in no way a positive change. Cameron's 'big society' has fallen flat on it's face, but hang in there, things will start looking up, eventually, hopefully.

Re: The job market ...

Why not consider Singapore?

Here unemployment rate is around 2%, if you have right skills there are plenty if job available.

Safe and clean, low taxes and crime. Plenty of Halal food (almost all fast food chains like McDonald, KFC and Burger King only services Halal meat).

There are mosques within few KM (specially in town area where you can find 2 -3 mosques in 2 KM radius), on top of that many offices and commercial building has muslin prayer (mostly in basement carpark).

Getting jobs for foreigners is a bit tricky right now, but if you have right skills you could try.

Most Pakistanies here are finance professional and engineers.

Re: The job market ...

no job here (Pakistan) in telecommunication sector ...

It is surprising, I thought telecom, IT and finance are the only sectors doing well in Pakistan.

Re: The job market ...

No jobs (acc to qualifications)for expats here....

Re: The job market ...

overall the job market is not good, however it can vary quite significantly by skills.
as an example, if you have a background in web security, or with web analytics or digital marketing, companies will fight for you.

Re: The job market ...

Major cities in Pakistan must be flourishing with jobs with all the outsourcing going there. All the major companies are there.

Re: The job market ...

I do not think so.

At one end due to lack of job opportunities as well pathetic status of our education system. We are facing problem at both end.

The young are not finding jobs and resort to crimes (that explains all time high street crimes in Pakistani cities).

On employers prospective, there is big shortage of quality peoples. I found those who are really good (but they need to be lucky to get their first job in the first job), i have colleagues went on to become regional and country head of companies like HP and Intel.

I have seen so many talented young man earning good money in Pakistan as privet corporations are having difficulty finding quality peoples.

I must say that my experience is limited to IT industry.

Recently my daughter (who is working with a IT major) meet her colleague from Pakistan and surprise when lady shared that she is earning about 500K every month. She told her that financial sector is paying even more then that.

Re: The job market ...

There are jobs in IT sector but not in telecom ..

Re: The job market ...

the education system there is indeed pathetic. :(
