Arrogance and jealousy was the downfall of the Iblees. He was the most pious of the Jinns and was in the ranks of the angels. It is said that there was no place in the universe where he hadnt prostrated to Allah. But it was his arrogance and jealousy for Allah's creation, Adam, that made him the accursed one and he lost his stature.
Incidently, Takabbar and Hassad are associated with the Iblees and are disliked by the Almighty. If we look around ourselves and within ourselves, we can see how many of us are inflicted with this disease. Indeed, Iblees's has been successful on earth in instilling these sins amongst many of us.
