Re: The Iran-Pakistan nexus
Good news that relations are improving but I would like to see more cooperation in the military field
I think the shah once proposed that pak and iran jointly license produce mirage fighter planes it was turned down by pak but joint ventures like these would be very effective in improving ties
Re: The Iran-Pakistan nexus

Iran helped Pakistan during 65 and 71 wars, and in aiding us in putting down the Baloch tribal rebellion in the 1970's, hence we have had pretty strong military cooperation.
Re: The Iran-Pakistan nexus
Yes I was aware of that,Infact in 1971 a squadorn of F-5 fighters was loaned by IIAF but was never used in combat.
Joint defence production is one field where we can cooperate more like "zolfiqar" or "khalid" tanks
Re: The Iran-Pakistan nexus
I thought it was the saudis who loaned the F-5s?
Shah sent jet fuel to keep PAF afloat as well (when reserves were dangerously low).
Re: The Iran-Pakistan nexus
Blitzkieg here is the whole situation from Tom Coopers website
Finally, during the 1971 War, an agreement was reached with the Imperial Iranian Air Force to deploy a squadron of Northrop F-5A Freedom Fighters to Pakistan. These aircraft were actually owned by the USA, and β technically β only βloanedβ to Iran in the frame of the Military Assistance Programme. By the time of the 1971 War, they were already slanted to be transferred to South Vietnam, Greece and Jordan, in 1972. The first four Iranian F-5As, however, arrived in Pakistan only on 16 December 1971: too late to take part in hostilities. The PAF operated them for few months and then all were returned to Iran. Unconfirmed Indian reports claim that Pakistan received also a total of 35 F-86Fs from Saudi Arabia and Iran during the war, but there is no confirmation for this as of now.
Re: The Iran-Pakistan nexus
Al-Khalid doesn't need partners. Though, Iran can buy Pakistani tanks and build them under license. Along with planes like Jf-17, and trainers like the K-8 & Mushshak's.
If Pak-Iran had such relations, China could've reverse-engineered the Irani F-14s.
Re: The Iran-Pakistan nexus
Pakistan doesn't need Iran, pakistan needs partner like Israel to booster Pakistan's defence. Iran is going to get attacked I hope!.

nicole.
Re: The Iran-Pakistan nexus
i really cant see Amajadadananaijad (rabidly anti US) and Busharraf (US lapdog) agreeing on anything of significance to the rest of the world. Maybe they could compare notes on how best to oppress Balouchis.
