September 11th: And The Inevitable Clash of Civilisations

History’s scribes can record no era more painful than this;

A tragedy deeply embedded within the ‘sands of time’

Where every grain can tell an orphan’s story or has shared a widow’s grief

And can bare witness to a monstrous tale or a hideous crime

Oh how far we’ve dropped from a ‘State of Grace’ like the dried out leaves

For the Shield that guards has been reduced to a paper file

Where once the Mighty Vessel ruled the Seven Seas

The Pirates with their Stars and Stripes now ride the Tide

Sep 11th: One year on

My dear Muslim Brothers and sisters, a year has passed since the September 11th attacks in America and still the so called war on terrorism continues.

We were told 12 month ago that this is a war between the civilised world and the uncivilised world.

We were told that “This crusade, this war upon terror will be of a long period”
We were told that this is not a war on Islam or the Muslims

And yet for the past 12 months since the attacks, in the last 365 days western bombs have landed only on Muslim countries, masses of innocents have died only in Muslim countries and Western military bases have been established only in Muslim countries.

In the past 12 month never before has the discussion on Islam and Muslims engrossed the media as it does now.

In the past 12 month we have been bombarded by programmes and articles from newspapers to television and all that’s in between urging us to redefine Islam, to reconsider Allah’s words, to make His Deen more palatable to western tastes, and to accept the West’s political culture.

In the past 12 month we have seen the unjustified crackdown on Islamic individuals some detained for months without trial and without a shred of evidence with new laws issued under the pretext of combating terrorism to facilitate this.

In the past 12 month we have witnessed a Muslim genocide in India crimes that have been conveniently overlooked by the Western governments. We have witnessed the mass murder and genocide of our brothers in Palestine at the hands of the Butcher Sharon crimes committed with Western weapons under the watchful encouraging and endorsing eye of the US.

In the past 12 month the despots, rulers of the Muslim world, the puppets of the Western Governments, Musharaf, Karimov and their likes have turned their attention to deconstruct Islam and secularise their countries at America’s orders. Launching their mini wars against Islamic groups, mosques, madrassas and all opposition to their tyrannical and kuffur rule.

In the past 12 month a single so called terrorist organisation is yet to be apprehended, dismantled, arrested or destroyed.

The question begs; where is this War on Terrorism? Or is this merely a front for a war on Islam and the Muslims?

Is there a war on terrorism or is this the manifestation of a clash of civilisations?

A clash between the western civilisation that is based on the ideology of Capitalism and the Islamic Civilisation that emanates from the Islamic Aqeedah

They say that September 11 is the day that changed the world, no rather it is the day that has conveniently brought anti Islamic sentiments and feelings within the realm of public acceptance.

It is the day that unified the western people against a common enemy and allowed them to say the Muslims are coming and they are terrorists, for the Red Menace; Communism has been officially substituted for the Green Menace; Islam.

The Clash of Civilisations between Islam and the West

My dear Muslim brothers and sisters conflicts have existed throughout time always there has been a victor and a victim, with the causes of conflict ranging from religion to simply the desire to dominate others.

What concerns us today is the clash of civilisations that has existed for centuries between Islam and the Western civilisation that has taken a more deceptive and covert shape since the beginning of the 20th century from the style of the crusades and that today specifically after 9/11 manifests itself through America’s desire to dominate the middle east and the Muslim world at large.

George Bush senior in 1992 made the following statement “A world once divided into to armed camps now recognises one sole and pre-eminent power, the United States of America”.

The two armed camps that he was speaking about were the USA and its allies against its ideological adversary the Soviet Union and its allies.

More significantly it was a clash between Capitalism its thoughts and systems that exhibited itself through the leader of the so called free world and communism its thoughts and systems that exhibited itself through Soviet power.

And whilst communism has been sent to the dustbin of history today there remains a far greater ideological threat to the Capitalist world order namely Islam.

Both Islam and Capitalism poses a collection of concepts about life and hence they are civilisations or ideologies.

æóäóÒøóáúäóÇ Úóáóíúßó ÇáúßöÊóÇÈó ÊöÈúíóÇäðÇ áøößõáøö ÔóíúÁò

And We have sent down to you the Book (the Qur’an) as an exposition of everything … [TMQ: Al- Nahl:89]

Islam is both spiritual and divine because it emanates from the Islamic Aqeedah, the source of which is revelation and the other capitalism, man-made emanating from the doctrine of secularism which is the separation of religion from life its source being that which was agreed upon by man.

Both have systems to implement their viewpoints about life (economic, political, social)

Both have systems to defend their view points about life

Both are expansionists and seek to propagate their view points about life

Indeed the Islamic threat is a clear and present danger for Capitalism, and here I do not speak about the western propaganda of so called terrorist groups or acts of terror, but I speak of the superiority of our civilisation, its intellectual strength, its global appeal that have made it the biggest contributor to human advancement and positive existence.

Today Islam is the fastest growing religion

It is the religion of choice of an estimated 1.5 billion of the worlds populous

Today despite all of the attempts by the western powers to subvert Islam and reduce it to nothing more than a system-less religion, the Islamic dawah that has ensued in the Muslim lands through the call for the Re establishment of the Khilafah has re-established Islam in the minds of many as a complete way of life, an ideological creed with thoughts and systems that can govern the whole of humanity.

That despite the political divide between Muslims the false borders superimposed by the western governments and their agents, the Muslim Ummah still sees her self as one, one Deen, one Ummah and yearning for one state.

This revival coupled with the geography of Muslim countries who by Allah’s Grace find themselves sitting on top of the worlds largest oil and natural gas resources (Saudi Arabia and Iraq alone sit on 37% of the worlds oil supplies) as well as controlling the most strategic waterways has caused much concern for the western world.

A concern that for so long has dominated Western foreign policy and influenced decision making in relation to the Muslim world prompting an intellectual, political, economic and military struggles between Capitalist powers and Islam.

The Intellectual Struggle:

After the attacks of 9/11 the intellectual attack against Islam continued, more importantly critics of Islam could afford to be more honest about their hatred towards it.

The Italian PM Berlusconi stated, “We must be aware of the superiority of our civilisation, a system that has guaranteed - in contrast with Islamic countries - respect for religious and political rights”.

A writer in the IHT said, Islam since 1914 has failed to make a serious intellectual response to the modern West. Culture and intelligence, not power, decide the quality of societies.”

Indeed these quotes reflect the general feelings that exist about Islam in the West from those who dared to be honest about their feelings within a world dominated by the illusion of freedoms and human rights.

Feelings that existed way before September 11th. Richard Nixon in his book ‘Victory without War’ he states “The revolutionary Islamic ideology is a reaction against modernisation. Communism promises to rotate the hour of history forwards and Islamic fundamentalism returns it backwards…Communist and Islamic revolutionaries are ideological enemies adopting a common aim: Desire to achieve power by any necessary means with the aim of imposing a dominant dictatorship based upon their ideals which are unbearable.”

Further to this in his book ‘The Favourable Opportunity’ he describes what he means by Islamic fundamentalists: “They are determined to return the previous Islamic civilisation through reviving the past, and they aim to implement the Islamic Shari’ah and announce that Islam is a deen and State.” So according to this your prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), his companions (ra) and all the trustworthy and pious are fundamentalists and extremists.

Also today you can go to a French school or library and pick up the French cultural encyclopaedia and in it in reference to Muhammad (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) it states: “Anti-Christ, kidnapper of women, and the greatest enemy to the human intellect.”

These statements are a clear and explicit indication of their enmity that they practice with their intellectual struggle against the Islamic civilisation.

An intellectual struggle that manifests its self in the media in the way it has portrayed Islam synonymous with Terrorism

That manifests itself in the dominance over the education curriculum at all its levels to facilitate the spread the Western concepts, distort and fight some of the concepts of Islamic civilisation and forge the history of Muslims.

That manifests itself in the establishing of schools and universities directly supervised by Westerners to pass the concepts of capitalism, such as the American University in Cairo and Beirut.

In the setting up of political parties that adopt Western civilisation and call for it, and their funding and protection.

In their fighting of the Arabic language and reviving non-Arabic languages, and inciting nationalistic and patriotic agitations.

The Economic Struggle:

As for the economic struggle the Western civilisation’s enmity to the Islamic Ideology manifested itself through many styles some of which include:

Domination over natural resources as is taking shape in the Caspian region for example

Making the dollar an alternative to gold as the world's currency

Continuing to make the developing countries mere markets for consumption by preventing them from [developing] heavy industry and even many of the light industries.

Drowning the developing countries with compound interest loans through the IMF and World Bank. Loans which remain a crippling factor to this day and suck the bulk of GDP into debt servicing as opposed to sanitation and education. Pakistan is a perfect example of this.

Formulating policies predominantly imposed by the IMF leading to the absence of food security in these countries, such that they fall under the mercy of aid, grants and loans after they have been self-sufficient.

Igniting regional wars to push states to purchase weapons, which quickly transform into mere outdated, insignificant, rusting scrap metal, unless they are used in their regional wars.

Working for the absence of security in various countries, such that [their] capital migrates to more secure countries like Europe and America, which they then freeze under various pretexts whenever they wish. Arab countries alone have capital in the West amounting to 800 billion dollars at the lowest estimate a clear indication of what has been plundered from the Islamic lands some of which there people are barely able to eat

Exerting economic influence in various countries through globalisation, privatisation and capital investments owned by giant multinationals.

Imposing sanctions upon countries, like the sanctions America imposed upon Iraq to exert political and economic influence.

My dear Muslim brothers and sisters at the end of the first world war the then President of the united states Woodrow Wilson stated “is there any man here let me add any women or child that does not know that the seeds of war in the modern world are industrial and commercial rivalry”

British Royal Commission, agreeing with Winston Churchill's policy towards Iraq in 1913 stated

"We must become the owners, or at any rate the controllers at the source, of at least a proportion of the oil which we require."

7 years later in 1920 after Britain’s success in disuniting the Arabs from the Uthmani Khilafah and the establishment of Iraq the then foreign minister Lord Curzon stated “the allies have sailed to victory on a sea of oil.”

This is the manifestation of the economic struggle within the clash of civilisations
The Political and Military Struggle:

As for the political and Military struggle against Islam

It is evident in their destruction of the Islamic Khilafah: When Lord Curzon said "The point at issue is that Turkey has been destroyed and shall never rise again, because we have destroyed her spiritual power: the Khilafah and Islam."

It is evident in their establishing of the state of Israel amidst the Islamic world and pumping it with money and weapons to give it a qualitative edge over its neighbours

It is evident in their fragmentation of the Islamic ummah to around 60 states under the illusion of independence to divide and conquer the ummah and ensure her unity never prevails again through tyrants an agents who despite the fact that Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’aala) says:

æóÇÚúÊóÕöãõæÇú ÈöÍóÈúáö Çááøåö ÌóãöíÚðÇ æóáÇó ÊóÝóÑøóÞõæÇú

"Hold fast, all together, to the rope of Allah and do not divide"

They facilitate the division of this ummah.

It is evident in their establishment of puppet regimes with republican and monarchical systems of government that remain in rule for decades

It is evident in their stirring up of wars between the Muslim countries in an Anglo American struggle for domination of the region

It is evident in the Despots that rule the Muslim countries by implementing the clear cut kuffur and fighting Islam and all those who call for Islam and the return of the Islamic Khilafah by murdering their members, torture persecution and imprisonment combating their intellectual and political struggle with batons and guns.

It is evident in their killing of Muslims in Afghanistan, Palestine, Iraq, Chechnya

It is evident with their attacks on the ahkam of Jihad negating them through their hired scholars and the twisting of the Islamic aqeedah to ensure that the Muslims can never defend themselves, that they remain without a protector and without a Shield.

Ya ummatul Islam, you whom in the Messenger of Allah you have the best example, is there any doubt in your minds that there is a clash of Civilisations? Is there any doubt in your minds that there is a struggle between haq and batil?

ÍóÊøóìó íóÑõÏøõæßõãú Úóä Ïöíäößõãú Åöäö ÇÓúÊóØóÇÚõæÇú æóãóä íóÑúÊóÏöÏú ãöäßõãú Úóä Ïöíäöåö ÝóíóãõÊú

”…And they will never cease fighting you until they turn you back from your religion (Islâmic Monotheism) if they can. [TMQ Al-Baqarah: 217]"

When day in and day out your deen is under attack, when every year we are faced with a new prospect of some poor Muslim population somewhere in the world whom upon its head western Terror is about to descend.

I dread to imagine the streets of Baghdad in the next few months, I dread to imagine the fate of my brothers and sisters when the capitalist pirates descend in their quest for middle east oil. Oil that tempts a US administration heavily linked to the oil industry, an administration who’s Vice President Dick Cheney once CEO of Halliburton the world’s largest oil services company valued at 12 billion and still the majority share holder said in reference to Saddam: 'He sits on top of 10 per cent of the world's oil reserves. He has enormous wealth being generated by that.

Capitalism is flawed

This is the world under Capitalism oh Muslim ummah

This is the world under an ideology that enslaves the masses to feed the few.

Muslims will loose their lives, children will be orphaned, and wives will be widowed so that the US can control 10% of the world’s oil reserves that flow beneath Iraq.

What type of civilisation is this I ask you brothers and sisters?

And shame on you humanity for allowing such a decadent ideology to regulate your affairs.

An ideology who’s intellectual strength does not transcend the depth of the notion of a compromise

An ideology that refuses to accept the concept that the Creator of Life has a right to dictate how we should live our lives

An ideology that its criteria for action are benefit, greed and the amassing of wealth above everything else.

In 1998, the then Vice President Al Gore threatened South Africa, a country that has three million HIV positive persons, not to mention, water, sanitation and poverty problems, with trade sanctions if the government didn't cancel plans to use much cheaper generic AIDS drugs, which would cut into US companies' sales. When Gore, who had connections to the drug industry was accounted for the proposed sanctions he simply stated "I love this country. I love the First Amendment."

Is it any surprise that the world is in such a state when those charged with governing abuse their power in such a way?

Is it any surprise that in 1991 Lawrence Summers the chief economist of the World Bank and institution supposedly created to assist developing countries wrote in an internal memo:

"I think the economic logic behind dumping a load of toxic waste in the lowest-wage country is impeccable and we should face up to that."

In the same year of 1991 a book entitled Global responsibility stated the following stats:
FACT

Every hour 1500 children die of hunger related causes (whilst the West disposes of food mountains, (butter, milk, meat, wheat), to maintain the balance between supply and demand for economic benefits.)

Every month the West’s economic systems adds over 7.5 billion dollars to the catastrophically unbearable debt burden of more than 1.5 trillion dollars now resting on the shoulders of Third World Nations (through organisations such as the IMF and World bank due to their structural adjustment policies and interest based loans.)

Every week during the 1980s more people were detained, tortured, assassinated, made refuge, or in other ways violated by acts of repressive regimes than at any other time in history; (regimes that are supported by Western Governments when it suits their interest and discarded and fought when it doesn’t.)

Eleven years has passed since then and according to current trends things can only get worst under Capitalism for not even the West has been immune from its poisonous fruits.

The decline of the moral authority, combined with the reliance on legal justice, …are rapidly making the United States a social wasteland with dysfunctional politics, dysfunctional religion, dysfunctional industries, and dysfunctional homes. The end product is not autonomous individuals, but dysfunctional individuals. The World & I: A Publication of the Washington Post, September 1994

I would argue that the whole collapse of the family, the collapse of the inner city, the collapse of the school systems, the emergence of the drug culture, the rise of violent crime, a whole range of things, are a function of a crisis in our civilization, …because there was no space in the public square to talk directly and candidly about our civilization... And most of the things we’re trying to describe … are in fact civilizational collapses. It’s the failure to have the right answer first thing in the morning when they wake up in terms of how [people] should live their life! Excerpts from Speech given by Newt Gingrich at the National Press Club: July 5, 1995

“There is no longer a sense of sanctuary anywhere, millions of Americans are afraid to walk the streets or to use their parks”
“To our international shame, Washington DC has the highest rate [of crime] of any capital city in the World.”
“Our criminal justice system has abysmally failed to deliver what should be the first freedom, freedom from fear” Excerpts from Beyond Peace by Richard Nixon former President of the US

Islam the Last Hope for Mankind

My dear Muslim brother and Sisters today Humanity stands at the crossroad, with but two options available for the inhabitants of this earth. Either to remain in this grieving and sad state of affairs that we find ourselves in today under the tentacles of Capitalism or to accept Islam as an ideological alternative to Capitalist exploitation and hegemony and as the only and true last hope for mankind.

Today we live in a world, where the lethal cocktail of freedoms, individualism and benefit leaves its scars on society be it through the kidnapping, rape and murder of preteen school girls, the rape of a helpless 90 year old women lying on makeshift bed in a hospital corridor awaiting treatment, the senseless stabbing of a boy simply because he speaks differently or the murder of a father by his two 13 & 14 year old sons who took a bat to his head because he disallowed them to play computer games late at night.

Today we live in a world, where there is little value given to human life in pursuit of economic and political gains be it the bombing of innocent civilians or the crippling of nations through globalisation.

Indeed today there is much hardship and oppression in the world that reflects the absence of justice, just men, and just systems. Much anguish and suffering that reflects the flawed politics, flawed governments, flawed values and flawed principles that shape the political landscapes of the earth and regulate the affairs of man.

It time for a fundamental change

It is time for Islam

Alif-Lâm-Râ. (This is) a Book which We have revealed unto you (O Muhammad (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam)) in order that you might lead mankind out of darkness (of disbelief and polytheism) into light (of belief in the Oneness of Allâh and Islâmic Monotheism) by their Lord's Leave to the Path of the All-Mighty, the Owner of all Praise.[TMQ Ibrahim: 1]

Indeed it is this ayah that gives an apt description of the purpose of the Islamic Civilisation and our reason for clashing with other ideologies.

Unlike the individualism of capitalism that breeds greed and decay Islam instils in its followers a sense of responsibility towards themselves and humanity. It is not Islam that conquered lands enslaved their people, usurped and plundered wealth that rather is the track record of Western Civilisation.

The Islamic conquests were to carry the Islamic call never to amass wealth, for no other ideology instils in its carriers such a sense of accountability for ones actions, responsibility towards humanity and a spirit of sacrifice for the greater good that pleases Allah, as does Islam.

It is an ideology that does not compel others to convert to its faith but rather permits them to remain in their faith and convinces them only through the application of its just systems and laws unlike the Western civilisation and its history of inquisitions. Indeed the difference in colours here today, nationalities all sharing the faith of Islam is a testimony to its intellectual superiority that makes it the fastest growing religion today.

It is these distinguishing features that prompted western historians and philosophers to observe the following:

George Bernard Shaw in 'The Genuine Islam,' Vol. 1, No. 8, 1936.

"If any religion had the chance of ruling over England, nay Europe within the next hundred years, it could be Islam."

"I have always held the religion of Muhammad in high estimation because of its wonderful vitality. I have studied him - the wonderful man and in my opinion far from being an anti-Christ, he must be called the Savior of Humanity."

"I believe that if a man like him were to assume the leadership of the modern world he would succeed in solving its problems in a way that would bring it the much needed peace and happiness"

Bertrand Russel in ‘History of Western Philosophy,’ London, 1948, p. 419.

"Our use of phrase 'The Dark ages' to cover the period from 699 to 1,000 marks our undue concentration on Western Europe... "From India to Spain, the brilliant civilization of Islam flourished. What was lost to christendom at this time was not lost to civilization, but quite the contrary... "To us it seems that West-European civilization is civilization, but this is a narrow view."

Ya Ibad Allah, Your Lord states in His Book:

æóãóäú ÃóÍúÓóäõ ÞóæúáðÇ ãøöãøóä ÏóÚóÇ Åöáóì Çááøóåö æóÚóãöáó ÕóÇáöÍðÇ æóÞóÇáó Åöäøóäöí ãöäó ÇáúãõÓúáöãöíäó

“And who is better in speech than one who calls to Allah, does good deeds and says that ‘I am of the Muslims’? ” [TMQ Al-Fussilat:33]

We are men and women of ration, of understanding and our belief in Islam is a testimony to this. Indeed for us is a great role in this clash and that is the carrying of Islam for the intellectual and political struggle.

Islam and Capitalism can never co-exist just as oil and water do not mix. To accept capitalism is to accept the falsehood of it basis, therefore how can an ideology that does not separate religion from politics coexist in harmony with an ideology that separates religion from state. How can ideology based on the worship of the Creator coexist in harmony with one that considers the Creator insignificant?

Oh Muslim Ummah an Amanah has been placed on your necks, you have been give a light let it shine and dispel this darkness.

You have a duty in front of Allah of explaining for Muslims and non Muslims alike the ideological nature of Islam, the justice of its systems and the mercy of its practice and call

Systems that unfortunately have been non existent since the destruction of the Khilafah in 1924 but will return soon by the grace of Allah with the re-establishment of the Khilafah.

It is your duty as Muslim to work for the re-establishment of this state

It is your duty as Muslims to guard Islam from the intellectual western attack that seeks to remove the pure Islamic thought from the mind of the Muslims through the call of integration and the acceptance of Western political culture.

You must be bold, you must not cower you must not be intimidated in your carrying of the Truth.

Rabi Ibn Amir was once asked by the Super power of his time Rustum the Ruler of persia “What brought you out of the dessert you Nomad of Arabia?”

Rabi` said: “Allah has sent us, and He brought us here in order to lead whom He wills from the worship of man to the worship of the Creator of man; from the narrowness and oppression of this world to the space and abundance of the hereafter; and from the injustice of other ways of life to the justice of Islam. He has sent us with His religion to His creation, to call them to Him.”

May Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’aala) allow us to repeat this statement soon and make it a reality for us once again insha’Allah.

May He (Subhanahu Wa Ta’aala) allow us to be the vehicle by which the misconceptions about Islam perish, its mercy is visible, its justice is liveable and its principles are cherished.
