**Puttaparthi: **Spiritual leader Sri Sathya Sai Baba passed away at the Sathya Sai super speciality hospital at Puttaparthi in Andhra Pradesh’s Anantapur district today. Doctors said he passed away at 7.40 am of cardio-respiratory failure. The 84-year-old was admitted to hospital on March 28 with breathing and heart problems.

His condition since Thursday morning had been described as “very critical” by doctors attending to him. Most of his organs were not responding to treatment. The condition of his liver and his low blood pressure were causing concern, they had said.

The doctors appealed to people to be calm and not rush to hospital. Security has been tightened in the area. All roads leading to the hospital have been blocked and shops have been ordered to close at Puttaparthi.

Godman to some, miracle-man to others and revered as God by lakhs of his followers, Sathya Sai Baba had the rich, famous and powerful from the world of politics, business, films and sport flocking to his doorstep in Puttaparthi, the small Andhra Pradesh village that he made internationally famous.

Born on 23 November 1926 in a modest family in Puttaparthi, Satyanarayana Raju declared himself a reincarnation of Shirdi Sai Baba at the age of 14. From then on his devotees and admirers only grew in numbers over the years.

Though a few controversies did cast shadows on Sai Baba’s image and critics have been skeptical about claims that he would produce holy ash, golden rings and mementoes from thin air, Sathya Sai Baba also earned respect for setting up world-class educational and health institutions and also for charitable work like drinking water projects for four semi-arid districts of Andhra Pradesh and in Chennai. The institutions and properties that he built are estimated to be worth over 27,000 crore. After a hip fracture in 2006, Sathya Sai Baba was confined to a wheel chair and gave darshan from his car or a portable chair.

Re: The Indian spiritual leader Sai Baba passes away.

Haha ravage. No doubt a scammer. Successfull scammer given his following. I hate these stupid babas. THis guy has been blamed for sexual molestation a few times too.

Re: The Indian spiritual leader Sai Baba passes away.

Damn, this Baba had over 6 million followers! Now what will they do that their Baba died? Someone will claim he is Satya Sai Baba reborn...and more people will just believe it LOL.

Re: The Indian spiritual leader Sai Baba passes away.

These successful babas only add more credit to the notion that religions soiritual leaders that claim to be incarnations or prophets are nothing but scammers. They migt just have some good intentions and spread good values etc etc. But still scammers!!!! I include jesus mohammad hindu babas all in this category.

Re: The Indian spiritual leader Sai Baba passes away.

Good point! I think Scientology is also a great example of how anyone can start a scam religion and gain lots of followers.

Re: The Indian spiritual leader Sai Baba passes away.

Faith is blind. since ages people have followed self claimed babas , saints, prophets and gods.
who knows what is the truth, so it is better to respect the feelings of people.

may god rest his soul in peace

Re: The Indian spiritual leader Sai Baba passes away.

It must be said though that Satya Sai Baba did do a lot of good deeds like building colleges, schools for orphanages, and hospitals, and his water projects which provided water to 1.2 million people. He also promoted non-violence and unity between Hinduism and Islam. I respect Satya Sai baba for that, but at the same time I don't like the fact that he had to pretend he was some holy figure or something.

Re: The Indian spiritual leader Sai Baba passes away.

^^

and not to forget shelter for 1000s of orphans and feeding them daily

now what happens to this people

Re: The Indian spiritual leader Sai Baba passes away.

Re: The Indian spiritual leader Sai Baba passes away.

**i think ridiculing someone's faith is very mean at best...Islam teaches us NOT to do that or else they will turn back and say bad things about ur religion and i'm sure u wudn't like that...Qur'aan says:

"lakum deenakum waliya deen"...translation..."for u ur religion, for me my religion"

plz stop this!**

Re: The Indian spiritual leader Sai Baba passes away.

Hence you do it all the time - check your own posts made against different sects in Islam .... why preach something you dont even apply on yourself ...

yea please stop this .....

Re: The Indian spiritual leader Sai Baba passes away.

There is need to ridicule or hate person just because of their religion. It's perfectly fine to dislike a certain ideology, but WRONG to hate/mock/make fun of the people who believe in it!

Islam does teach hatred towards other religions by claiming to be the one true religion and saying anyone who follows any other religion will go to Hell, so I wouldn't quote something from the Quran. See the following verses which promote intolerance (there are a lot more, but I'm just quoting a few):
They who disbelieve, and deny Our revelations, such are rightful Peoples of the Fire. They will abide therein." Quran 2:39

Christians and Jews (who believe in only part of the Scripture), will suffer in this life and go to hell in the next. Quran 2:85
"Allah has cursed them for their unbelief."

The curse of Allah is on disbelievers. Quran 2:89
