The Indian Message

Shak killS, are you going to hold me accountable for the words of a singular defence analyst?

Shall I also hold you accountable for Zia’s policy of “a thousand cuts”? Know what grounds you’re treading on here.

However, “comments on comments aside”, If I was to look purely for the strategic and geopolitical interests of my country, and given the assumption that Pakistan is a regional rival, I’d say yes, an entirely stable Pakistan is not in my country’s interest. This judgment would ofcourse be tempered by the realization that an entirely unstable Pakistan is not in my interest either.

I would expect the same from your strategic thinkers and decision-makers. Anything short of that would be considered incompetent or mental lassitude.

As a layman however, tired of the constant proxy-warring between our two nations, and seeking the best for my family in terms of security and welfare, I would want both countries to cease and desist. You are no angels, and we aren’t either. But if we want to make the subcontinent anything better than the ticking human time-bomb that it is, and lift the millions out of poverty in your country and mine, then a stable Pakistan and India are in each others’ interests.
