the image of pakistan is in tatters

Re: the image of pakistan is in tatters

Why is it that the basic necessities of life are so scarce or so unimportant...like healthcare and security but entertainment and hi end clothing manufacturers and designers are flourishing? Is it our people?

Re: the image of pakistan is in tatters

everytime something remotely is said about health.. some dumb loser will say its some "american/kaafir conspiracy"

Re: the image of pakistan is in tatters

:(

gap between rich and poor...diff worlds in the same 5 square mile radius u know..g to karachi, go to DHS and then drive next door to Korangi and you will know what I mean.

the rich have security guards and security details from private security firms
9although they are no match for organized gangs, political pressure groups and militant guerilla types either). They can afford best healthcare in the country and can travel out for it otherwise.

Re: the image of pakistan is in tatters

The first step to resolving a problem is to acknowledge that there is a problem.

For many Pakistanis (including educated ones), all problems in their country is due to foreign conspiracy.

I get it -- so the expression is along the lines of whose father owns the road.

Anyway, in BB's case, look at the crowds. An extremely difficult security situation and she did not help matters -- not that I blame her. I mean you can't campaign in a bubble. In this case, however, there were no crowds. We are reading both that the route was closed off the whole way and that there were police all along the route, and we are hearing that no police were anywhere to be seen (except for the ones that died). What is true? I wasn't there, I don't know. I do know that intersection, of course, and judging from the video, it was blocked off -- usually that is a pretty fast roundabout at that hour, being on the way to so many schools.

I don't understand why more police didn't pour in. I don't understand why there was no back-up crew. Except that perhaps the security management were lulled into thinking it was all going to be allright. It was the last match in the series, wasn't it?

Ofcourse, eveyrone is upset... but to say that the negative reports are unjustified is plain wrong... If there was a huge terrorist attack and there was excellent security and the terrorists were fought off, people would have said, OK, it was bad and scary and all, but thanks to the excellent security arrangements, we were all safe. That wasnt the case...

Why are you upset if the reports coming are actually true?? If you are invited somewhere and are promised 'presidential' level security, and then this happens to you, what would you do? The fact is that the security was pathetic and thats what the reports are saying.. sure pakistans image has taken a battering... but you cant just say hey everyones out to get us... and media are maligning our image.

yaar fraudiyay, 'top' security hoti to i dont think this would have happened.... The security arrangements were nowhere near adequate...

but dont these so called rich people get attacked just as much?

the amount of times a robber has broken into my mamoo's home in pak and held people at gunpoint is a crazy... and the guards are all there and everything..

i dont believe that even the rich are safe there... they have so many people within their "security" that can turn corrupt and organise somethign against the one they are supposedly protecting..

or “sab ne marr jaana hai aik din, jo marzi ker lo” which is true but their translation of that is just pathetic. :chai:

kaka, read again

im not saying that the articles arent true.. and ive never said that the reports are unjustified...

all i pointed out is that there is a very bad picture of pakistan at the moment. Be it true or false, it is a BAD picture

why do u even think that im in disgareement?

2 attacks dude, you forgot the one in Karachi that did not get her, but really the security for someone at that high of a profile has to be super duper you know.

But yes there was something very wrong with this attack on srilanka bus, my view is that maybe people knew but did not want to do anything because of political currency it would get them. I cant believe that Taleban types paid them off, or even if it was an outside agency..that does not explain why the security was so lax. and backup not ready ASAP

that was a sarcastic 'top'

depends on your definition of rich because when you look at the real elite, they dont get in harms way much. But yeah the upper middle class types get robbed and kidnapped for ransom and all that jazz, happened in my family too.

ur right... the upper middle class are the ones who get robbed left right and centre.

Disturbing

Re: the image of pakistan is in tatters

and these robbers are crafty. they once grabbed our neighbours while they were out at some restaurant and then forced them to bring them home, guards and all let them in, they had the husband go in with one of the crooks, give him money, jewlry, electronics and what nots, they took the wife with them, told the husband if he alls police they will kill her otherwise they will drop her off somewhere. They were gentlemen enough to give her cabfare when they dropped her a few miles away.

its friggin bizarre u know

Re: the image of pakistan is in tatters

thats very normal with my mamoo... some consultant of their own will organise a mate to hang around the corner cus they know when the money is being taken to the bank.. and rob them bare there..

somethign that happened with us.. few days after the wedding we were going from one city to another and my hubby had rented a car.. well the first day we came, we apparently were followed but cus my dad had a stroke they went back, the next time they followed us again and as soon as we got to my mamoo's place they stopped us at the gate and asked my husband to get out... we freaked out cus we had jewellery with us... there was a guy from the bank and another 'gunda' type person with the big moochein and a gun..

basically, the car we had rented was leased by someone who hadnt made their repayments, so these bank people had followed us two times with a gunda to get the car off us...

what the heck?!

neways it was a huge scene.. theres no decency

Re: the image of pakistan is in tatters

anyways, i just really hope it is a wakeup call for ppl in Pakistan. this whole lame back and forth blind support of the same couple dozen people and less than half a dozen top leaders is not getting us anywhere, accountability is shot. I see no real policies or plans no platform or vision from anyone.

maybe ppl can shut off their tvs and start asking for change

and i disagree with the title of the post, its not just image..the image may be more skewed than what we are used to seeing, a little dirtier perhaps, but its the country that is in tatters. The image in the mirror may appear worse because the mirror may be a little funky but it aint oen of em curcus mirrors that the image is being seen in.

Sadzzz, the tone frm your first few posts seemed like you're upset that such negative reports are coming out of the western media or that people are deliberately targetting pakistan unreasonably... I'm just saying, the media isnt there to get us this time...its justified. This deserved all the bad press, because its our incompetence that brought this upon us.

lol ur not in disagreement, I am! :p you said somewhere that it seems like the media is there to get Pakistan... which isnt really true here... it actually was very pathetic...normally that is the case,, unnecessary bad propaganda or masalaydaar negative news about muslims and Pakistan, but in this instance, any disgrace we get is justified and well deserved... truly shameful that we did that to our guests.

And I'm sick of painting this nice image of Pakistan when talking to people and colleagues that oh its all a media thing, they paint these horrible pictures and that its a normal country with normal people living their lives, working hard to feed their families and that I;ve lived there for 20 years and have never seen even a small street shooting let alone the horrible bombs and rockets and guns you see in the reports.

And the very next day something as pathetic as this happens! Deep down we all know its a fkced up country and has no hope of ever getting anywhere. Its annoying that I still care and let it bother me.

I'm just venting my frustration, dont mind me :)

Alright just making sure. The west is *already *attacking Pakistan, so this, unfortunately is nothing new.

Re: the image of pakistan is in tatters

Many of you do not realize what just transpired on the provincial political scene a few days before which caused this lapse of security. Even in such mitting circumstances, we saw heroes lay down their lives and protect the Lankan team. This is what we need to focus and be proud of, not senseless propaganda by people like 'some1', trying to tell us there is something wrong with us.

Re: the image of pakistan is in tatters

Please help sign the petition to Pakistan government… can we not do that much?

With all due respect to the dead policemen (and I will admit that my opinion is based only on news stories), I have to say this - dying does not automatically mean that you are a hero.

As Kaka pointed out above - these policemen may have just died because they happened to be on motorcycles and therefore more vulnerable. You really cannot tell that they went down with guns blazing.

But then again - I am an Indian - and all of my opinion is "propaganda".
