The humble camel spider

As some of you may know, yesterday i was right here on my computer when my dear pet spider legged it out of his tubb.:frowning:

Well today i found Mullah Octa and he’s safe and well. Hooray  so you can all go about your tasks safe in the knowledge that no scary fist sized cute little buble of silk is out there to chomp you!

Here are a few interesting facts i’ve discoverred about spiders over the last hectic 24 hours.

Spiders can shed thier skin! my friend Charlie actually though he got Octa, but when i looked closely it was a shell of his skin, yucky, i didn’t know spiders can shed their skin. Snakes and lizards do it but spiders? Sheesh…

Also Camel spiders are a large almost alien like type of Spider. They can be as big as tarantulas but they look very different, they actually resemble desert like scorpions.

We have many in Pakistan. Tough i know Mullah Octa is from Iraq. He came here in the pack of a UK soldier! Some of Mullah Octa’s sibblings are responsible for many injuries among the coalition soldiers. though scientists tell us that camel spiders are not poisonous, i am inclined to believe they are.

Anyway Mullah octa is a good boy, he aint never bit me or anybody else. I cannot however release the bechara becuase he is not a native UK species so i’m stuck with him. I have been offering him to zoos but surprissingly none of them want him!:o

If any of you think this spider is a joke i warn you it it’s not.

If you are ever near one do not provoke it! Camel spiders have a very nasty bite… oh and they move exceptionally fast.

Furthermore they live in deserts so they seek shade. If anyone ever sees one coming towards them it’s probably becuase the poor fellow wants to be in your shadow. aaaawwww.

Now in case your wondering why i care for this mere bug, then let me tell you like me he is not a native British species and he is my only roommate. If i could i’d smuggle him back to Pakistan with me and let him go… born free style.

But since i’m not going anywhere at the moment and becuase this guy has no chance without me out there in the world i have to help him.

Anyway feel free to think i’m mad, but this is serious i do love the poor little fellow. He loves bright lights but obviously don’t like direct sunlight for too long. Oh and he enjoys eating orange peel for some obscure reason?
