Re: The Great my-carrier-is-bigger-than-your debate
I had Verizon for four years and it had probably the best signal strength every where, compared to other carriers. However, when we moved to our new home, which was kinda up in the hills, Verizon just didn't had signal strength and the calls will drop within one minute. Just now switched from Verizon to Cingular, and its amazing. No call drops at all. I have been told, the Cingular network has improved tremendously after their recent merger with AT&T. Thats probably true, cz Cingular used to be the suckiest here, only a notch above T-Mobile, which is the worst.
Anyway, with Cingular, the added advantage is GSM network, where people in Pakistan can send SMS directly to the phone and vice versa. Also, once you get the phone unlocked, you can use it anywhere with a local SIM card. Verizon has started international service on their quad-band phones, but Sprint, to the best of my knowledge, does not offer any international roaming.
Re: The Great my-carrier-is-bigger-than-your debate
By the way, not to mention that being with Cingular, you can actually use all the capabilities of your phone. Verizon actually disables a lot of nifty features available on the phone set. For example, downloadable ringtones (Verizon wants you to pay for these) etc.
