The girl

Why is it that if an engagement/wedding is cancelled or breaks off people think its because of the girls character? what if the girl called it off ?what if they mutually decided their were not compatible?

what does this have to do with the girls charectar? why is that just a given. that if it breaks, its the girl?

and do people still really think like this?

Re: The girl

Unfortunately, ‘its never a man’s fault’ attitude still prevails in our society. From not being able to have children to bad parenting to children going astray to relationships breakdowns etc, it always a woman’s fault.

Re: The girl

People who care about what people think shouldn’t care about what people think and live their life on their own terms.

Re: The girl

Unfortunately I have seen this kind of attitude not only in “Paindu” families from small villages, but also in relatively educated families who have been living outside of Pakistan all their lives.

Re: The girl

For a nation with strong female characters, we’re surprisingly misogynistic. Maybe I’m too cynical, but I don’t see it changing anytime soon either.

Re: The girl

things are changing now. this breaking breaking off engagement thing has become so common now people are digesting it quite well. and people now accept that there are solid facts behind broken engagements like incompatibility between the guy n girl, difference of opinions between the two families, temperament issues, greedy nature of either etc.etc. So its not that people will tag the the girl of having a bad character.
Have seen girls who had broken engagements and then gotten married to other good prospects.

Re: The girl

Well these days what I am seeing around me is people breaking off engagements because of huq mehar & I dont think people blame girls only.

Re: The girl

this is because of old “culture/religion (hinduism)” from the subcontinent…
even pakistan still has this “hinduism labelled as islam” culture it hasn’t gotten rid of yet.

Re: The girl

Doesn’t matter what people think. Do what’s right for you, at the end of the day you will have to live with your decisions not anyone else.

Re: The girl

Yo man you can’t blame it on the hindus forever.

Re: The girl

Unfortunately in Pakistani society this is the sad truth. But I do think it is slowly changing.

Re: The girl

This is the first time I’m hearing this, usually the blame goes to the side you’re not related to regardless of gender.

Re: The girl

yea…if someone is blaming the girl or her family, its because of other previously existing ‘reasons’
