Seems really useful, especially since Muslims are not allowed to abort after 120 days (17 weeks?) since that is when the Rooh (Soul) is breathed in turning the foetus into a child, before the 120 day stage some scholars and sages allow abortion.
I don’t think its good to abort for the sake of gender but the article also says the tests can show genetic abnormalities etc.
Re: The Gender of a Child Determined at 6 Weeks of Pregnancy
This new test can detect chromosomal abnormalities only on the x-chromosome so it leaves out the full picture. I dont like the idea of encouraging abortion based on gender but I'm sure this test will be very popular.
Theres another test called CVS Chorionic Villi Sampling which is done around 11th week. This test provides as complete a genetic profile as amnio but is done earlier - within the 120 day requirement so if you're looking to uncover genetic abnormalities, this would be the way to go.
