we shouldnt rely on one particular individual. It wont take us far. There should be two three players who form nucleus of our batting. See how badly india suffered when they used to rely only on Sachin. But now they rely on likes of laxman, ganguly, dravid as welll as sachin. Now look at thier improvement.
Shadab confident of Pak recall after prolific display
“By Waheed Khan”
KARACHI: Shadab Kabir, the forgotten man of Pakistan cricket, is hoping his fortunes will change for the better in the next couple of weeks after a successful time in the first half of the 2003-2004 domestic season.
Still only 26-years of age, the left-handed opener whose batting ability has been praised by the best of them including Pakistan coach Javed Miandad and former captains Wasim Akram and Rashid Latif, is languishing on the sidelines ignored by the national selectors since early 2002.
And what is striking about the constant refusal of the selectors to recognize his batting talents is that in his last test tour for Pakistan, the left hander had scores of 96 (in a side match) 54 (first test) and 4 (2nd test) in Bangladesh.
And more interesting is the fact that when he was dismissed for four runs everyone agreed that the umpire had done him “in”.
Yet, after that series Kabir has constantly been shunted by the selectors even when he batted beautifully in five of the six trial games held prior to the 2003 World Cup and found a place in the final 30.
“I just want to play for Pakistan one more time. I have matured a lot as a batsman and opener and I know I can deliver the goods. I just want one chance,” was his plea on Thursday to the new selection committee headed by Wasim Bari.
“I have played seven innings in the first half of the season for KPT scoring around 438 runs and I hope to get more runs in the Quaid-e-Azam trophy,” he said.
Kabir was sent to the UAE with the Pakistan ‘A’ early last year and in two matches he struck form with scores of 100 and 78 yet he was not considered for a recall to the senior team.
More amazing is the fact that he was also completely ignored for the recent Pakistan A team tours to Sri Lanka and India
where his batting would have made a difference with the search still on for quality opening batsmen in the country.
Kabir has been a consistent scorer for Pakistan Customs, KPT and Karachi in the last two seasons and critics believe he deserves a chance atleast in the three day tour game against India.
Because despite all the claims Pakistan struggles when it comes to finding a opener of the calibre of Saeed Anwar or Aamer Sohail.
Mian Azmat Hussain, a well known cricket philanthropist and organizer believes that Shadab Kabir is now mature for big time cricket.
“He just needs one fair chance that is all and I am sure he will hold his place and not disappoint the selectors.”
The Pakistan selectors made the mistake of blooding a raw 19-year old on the tour of England in 1996 on the insistence of skipper Wasim Akram and to be fair Shadab did fairly well in the side games and tests.
He now deserves a chance on the dint of his consistent scores in domestic cricket.

Out of the curretn crop definitely Yasir and Taufeeq and maybe Asim Kamal. As Saby said, we need a nucleus of three or four players, not just one.
It is good news; Shadab Kabir is a good player and deserves a chance. Imran Farhat choked in New Zealand I think we should try Shadab Kabir in few ODI to see if he can deliver the goods. Bilal Asad & Saeed Bin Nazir also deserve a chance both have been waiting for they turn.
I have mention about Shadab Kabir in my previous post "Karachi Vs World" on 09-20-2003 11:33 PM

-> I agree with you 100%, PCB must learn from there mistakes, reshaping domestic cricket should be the 1st priority.
->While PCB is trying to re-invest cricket other countries like Bangladesh, Kenya, and Netherlands are focusing on domestic circuit. Bangladeshi batsman Rajin Salah is an example of that system which is adopted by these nations.
-> I agree with you Siferashi, politics and regional bias will only hurt Pakistani Cricket.
-> As far as Pakistani National Squad, I think PCB should bring Saeed bin Nazir and try him as #2, Yasir Hameed as #1 and Yousef Youhana should stay on #3.
I think my team can beat Bangladesh, what you think?
