In each of the fruits below, write one benefit you will get from fasting. You can choose some from the list at the bottom.

Taqwa, Self-control, Goodness, Charity, Kindness, Nearness to Allah, Strength, Sympathy, Sincerity, Forgiveness, Blessings.

Fasting in the month of Ramadan, like Namaaz (prayers) is a divine command.

Allah says in the Holy Qur’an,

“O you who believe! Fasting is prescribed for you, as it was prescribed for those before you, so that you may guard (against evil).” (2:183)

"The month of ramadan is when the qur’an was sent down as guidance for mankind…let any of you who live to see that month, fast it… (2:185)

Narrated Abu Huraira, The Holy Prophet Mohammed (Sallaho Alaihee Wasallam) said that your Lord (Allah) said,

“Every (sinful) deed can be expiated; and the fast is for Me, so I will give the reward for it; and the smell which comes out of the mouth of a fasting person, is better in Allah’s Sight than the smell of musk.” (Bukhari)

TheHoly Prophet Mohammed (Sallaho Alaihee Wasallam) in the following words beautifully explains the actual significance of the fast: -

“One who, while fasting, does not guard his tongue from telling lies, does not refrain from doing bad deeds, is not respecting his fast and Allah does not approve of mere abstention from food”.

When you are keeping fast, you should not speak ill of anybody, nor should you be boisterous and noisy. If anybody speaks ill of you or tries to pick a quarrel with you return him not, but say unto him that you are fasting.

Holy Prophet Mohammed (Sallaho Alaihee Wasallam) said:

“Whosoever recites only one ‘Ayat’ in Holy Ramadan, he will be awarded as if he had recited the full Qur’an, in other months.”
