The forbidden fruit(s)

Re: The forbidden fruit(s)

Pigeon-holing internet strangers helps maintain neat stereotypes about the world, no doubt. I am now a “modern liberal western educated Muslim.” Takes a libertine to know one, eh.
And, come now, if you’re going to make a statement, stand by it. No need to pretend you were casually trolling about gays to get a rise out of the flaming liberals that populate this flaming liberal forum.
I dunno, maybe your ‘random’ mention of homosexuals on a thread about sexy bananas is “why I picked up on it.”

Yes, critical introspection is what happens to bad people. Your frontal lobe is your enemy, always remember that. Nothing a concussion can’t fix.

I wasn’t aware this was a thread pitting Islamic values against Western values. (I see what you mean by “personal emotional issues” now). If you had a pulse on the sentiments of the underdog, you’d know the common man isn’t looking to be instructed on what it means to be Muslim. The common man wants food on the table, a secure future for his family, and for the Americans and Soldiers of Allah to get the hell off his turf.

Still waiting for you to name the posters mocking Islam. Finish what you started. Perhaps you’re projecting something you’re experiencing offline? Muslims in the West this, Muslims in the West that. Why even converse in English? Which happens to be the official vernacular of Hell.

What on earth do the issues that face Pakistan today have to do with the identity crises of Westernized Muslim yuppies? Right, we don’t lack indigenous Islamic scholarship, ijtihad isn’t dead, we’re not still reeling from Zia’s draconian legacy, our airwaves aren’t full of Zaid Hamids and Aamir Liaquats spewing reactionary hate speech, we’re not calling rape victims adulterers or assassinating Pakistani Christian ministers in the name of God. It’s the “western educated Muslim” that’s actually b@st@rdizing the religion beyond recognition. The “liberals” are the ones braying the loudest, wielding the most clout, the ones hijacking the Islamic narrative. And what I’ve just described is a figment of my “existential angst” and a ‘Western conspiracy to make Pakistan/Islam look bad.’

We suddenly have scruples, do we. You mean like hurling the ‘K’ invective at minorities on this forum? Perhaps it slipped your mind that non-Muslims exist on our side of the border, unless of course you don’t consider them Pakistani. Or classifying an entire thread of GS members as the collective enemy of a religion you fearlessly guard alone. Captain Cheerio, defender of the Momins, to the rescue.

Whatever discourse is, this ain’t it. One minute you’re advocating independent reasoning and name-dropping liberal thinkers like Orwell, and in the next breath you’ve turned into Farhat Hashmi with a handlebar moustache. Well what do you know, you might be an endearing bundle of contradictions like the rest of us, o’ lamb of God.

ps. What are you smoking, out with it. 'Cos I want in on that stash.
