THE FIG

why did Allah swt say this?

Surah Tee’n ('enjeer)

‘i swear by the fig and the olive
by Mt Sinai and by this inviolate soil!
that of goodliest fabric we created man,
then brought him down to be the lowest of the low,
save who believe and do the things that are right, for there shall be a reward
for those who fail not,
then, who after this will make you treat the Judgement as a lie?
why, is not God the most just of Judges?’

share your reflection on these verses, if you like.

Re: THE FIG

many mufassareen are of the view that the "fig" and "olive" mentioned in these verses r not the fruits but rather refer to the cities damascus and jerusalem respectively....
and this is confirmed by the verse after it, which mentions toor-e-seena and makka (balad-al-ameen)....
read tafseer for more info....

some scholars have also mentioned the benefits gained from these fruits and said that it is indeed the fruits themselves which r intended here....

Re: THE FIG

^ exactly wat he said

Re: THE FIG

thanks for the differentiation of fruits from twin cities.
also, important is to note why Allah swt tells us : 'that of goodliest fabric we created man,
then brought him down to be the lowest of the low,'
