The Exhibition - Bodies

Has anyone been there???

I went to see it yesterday. It was very very informative and I dont think you get too many chances to see something extraordinary like this. There has been a lot of debate on wether it is morally and ethically correct to use human body to make money etc etc…

Anyone in and around London should definitely try and see it. It is in Earls Court till 31st July tickets are £16.50 each.

They have demonstrated around 250 body and in most of the places comparison of healthy organ and a damaged one. Also there is a pair of lungs of a heavy smoker showing all the tar and damage. I guess it is more than enough to put you off smoking for some time atleast.

*From the official website:
To help you see what a body really looks like on the inside, this Exhibition uses real human bodies that have been preserved so they do not decay.

A human specimen is first preserved according to standard mortuary science. The specimen is then dissected to show whatever it is that someone wants to display. Once dissected, the specimen is immersed in acetone, which eliminates all body water. The specimen is then placed in a large bath of silicone, or polymer,
and sealed in a vacuum chamber. Under vacuum, acetone leaves the body in the form of gas and the polymer replaces it, entering each cell and body tissue.

A catalyst is then applied to the specimen, hardening it and completing the process. This method of preservation creates a specimen that will not decay. This offers thousands of unique teaching possibilities for educators at all levels, including medical professionals, archeologists and other scientists.

Re: The Exhibition - Bodies

I just took Anatomy. When I saw this thread, I started naming muscles that I recognize. Gosh, its consumed me.

I suppose there is going to be a huge debate about ethics, etc.

The human body is amazing, to say the least.

Re: The Exhibition - Bodies

I am not going.

Re: The Exhibition - Bodies

even i thought i would not be able to eat anything after the exhibition but on the contrary i was too involved in reading the stuff written about each and every part and what are its functions and marvel with which it works in tandem with every other part... and all I was able to say after reading all the facts was MASHALLAH and SUBHANALLAH.

Re: The Exhibition - Bodies

Oh they also have a counter where you can touch and feel a few of the parts... i touched a kidney, a cross section of brain and the lower bone of the right leg. :-s
