Re: The evil eye
Jafri Bhai it’s a global phenomena and not just Pakistani. Every culture has something along the lines of the Evil eye concept… and like many other things it might be that theres more to it than meets the eye… ![]()

Re: The evil eye
I know msot cultures have the concept of the evil eye, I'm talking about that blue eye thing in the video that Nomi posted.
Re: The evil eye
I agree with Restless on this one.
Speaking from experience here I knew a guy who was awarded an army service medal for his efforts. Years later he added a small Saphire to the top of the badge and replaced the slik ribbon, as it happens he was off to the bank one day and knowing he was going to pick up some money, a lowlife shot him with a .45 as you can guess the bullet was stopped by the medal it still hit him and drove the medal into his flesh but it stopped on a rib and didn't puncture his lung... pure coincidence maybe but that guy swore it was a lucky Saphire. Precious stones are even mentioned in teh Koran and interestingly the first description of a full suit of body armour is in the Koran too. :)
As for the concept of Taweez yeah sure it might have been something we picked up from other faiths I for one know why we still have fancy pre-Islamic rituals permitted to this day becuase they were never expressly forbidden. In fact Rasool Allah himself fashioned what you might call a Taweez and sent many such gifts to people that served them well to this day.
I think also that the Ahle Bayt are a reason too for much of the spiritual powers in Islam and even Sufi saints seem to have mind boggling abilites many of them scientifially proven and tried and tested. So yeah there is a third dimension definately and Islam does not have a monopoly on it neither.
Now as for the concept of Nazar or the Evil eye it exists in almost every culture I have come across from the Earliest in the Americas to the the Far East of Asia. As many an advertisement will tell you billions of people cant be wrong... and science might have something to learn actually.
Of course there is a third dimension, I don't deny it. But stones being lucky and all sounds very superstitious to me. Have you considered that the man who got shot, it just wasn't his time to die? Miraculous escapes happen all the time, some people just get lucky. The mention of precious stones or suits of armour in the Quran don't necessarily imply such stones have special properties. How can a diamond, for example, be lucky for me? It is just another form of carbon. Sorry but I'm a skeptic in all things superstitious.
Re: The evil eye
some people burn mirchein to ward off the evil balaeyein. jesus.
Re: The evil eye
stones, precious and semi-precious (and also metals, gold, silver, etc) have healing powers and many other benefits (including clearing negative energy). meri Behna, How does it relate to not having trust in Allah. Yeh Allah hi ki to nematein hain. When we say Olive oil can protect heart from degenerative diseases, it means that Allah put those healing attributes in the olive, how can it be shirk.
BarbieCue, Jade is a good stone for the purpose you are mentioning.
Like Rizla said, olive oil has a scientific explanation to back up its health benefits
Why do you need a stone to protect you from the evil eye? Why don't you pray to Allah directly? I might be ignorant about this-where in the Quran does it say that stones have the power to protect you from nazr and evil?
We're supposed to seek refuge in Allah from evil..not a stone.

This man is a thankless fool. Instead of thanking Allah SWT for saving him, he says it's because of the stone. Some Muslim!

Exactly. Only Allah has power over you. Only Allah can bestow good fortune on you. How can someone say that a stone has the power to bring you good fortune? This is shirk, IMO.

Miss, I am glad you asked me, you made me think, Allama Sheikh Peer (Shakespeare) says .. "I think, therefore, I am."
The nature of the things is such that, even though the Quran is the ultimate book of wisdom, It gives subtle hints about various phenomena, it is for us humans to explore and study and learn, there is never ending ocean of knowledge. The closer you get to knowledge, the deeper it gets. It'll consume our whole life to explore just one area of God's qudrat.
The famous urdu poet zauq says ...
Ham jante they Ilm se kuch Janein ge
Jana to yeh jana ke na Jana kuch bhi
God gives direct wisdom (Irfan) to Prophets, and saints, and sages, and pious people, so they can teach other people. Even the smallest things, such as how to light a fire have been taught to humans by Prophets.
For instance, Folk wisdom suggests that Gold can increase estrogen in human body, this wisdom is not in Quran, but It was transferred to us by one of the messengers.
It says in the Book tehzeeb-ul-mateen (volume 1), that almost all prophets (to name just a few) hazrat Adam (as), Hazrat Ibrahim (as), Hazrat Ismael(as), Hazrat Ishaq (as), hazrat Daniyal (as), hazrat Suleiman(as), Hazrat Zulqarnein(as), hazrat yahya(as), hazrat Saleh (as), etc... they all wore rings with gemstones in their right hands. There is lot of material suggesting that Prophet Mohammed and his progeny wore gemstones and have said many good things about it. Especially Red Cornelian, Torquoise, and Durr e Najaf has been mentioned over and over again, by pious people, saints, and sages

Black magic is an ilm too. The Quran has mentioned its existence. That does not mean we are supposed to practice it. I think relying on God is enough.
If the prophets really wore gemstones, what makes you think they wore gemstones because the gems had the power to protect them? Did they not find God enough for them? Either you rely on God or you rely on a stone. If you rely on a stone, it means God isn't enough for you. Either that or you believe that God will protect just because you wear a special stone.
If you rely on God, you don't need stones, taweezein, etc.
Re: The evil eye
I don't really think it's real but I'm not sure. Part of me thinks that humans can be ridiculously superstitious so things like this exist.

Also, all Prophets were human. Even if they did wear gems, has it occurred to anyone that maybe it was because they just LIKED TO WEAR IT?
