As the race to start Eid begins, what plans have you made.
If you are in the West, do you take the day off from work, or is it just another normal working day, but you get to have your morning caffeine fix? bliss
Is it a big family thing or more just with the nuclear fam bam?
I guess it all depends on where one is. But please share your plans for the upcoming holiday.
For us Eid could be on Monday or Tuesday, everyone is hoping for Monday because most took both Mon/Tues off from work and that way we get an extra day off!
Plan is to go to the masjid and pray Eid namaz, then everyone’s family is invited to my paternal grandparents home for lunch and then we usually head over to maternal grandparents for dinner. So a huge family gathering basically.
This Eid is going to be very different for me and the hubby. We’re spending it in Dubai with my hubby’s best friend and his nuclear family.
We usually just do a big family get together but this year we’re going to be travelling for the most part. I’m very excited as I’ve never really seen Dubai and just had connections there. So will be fun.
I’ve got both the possible days for Eid off. We’ll have relatives coming from out of town
So the plan is something like this:
Go for Eid salat
Go to my parents for lunch
Visit some family friends
Have dinner with family again
As far as preparations, I’ve got everybody’s gifts but can’t think of what to get for my dad. I’ll have my partner in crime (aka oldest niece) help me wrap the kids’ gifts. We’ve done most of the shopping but still have to buy stuff for the kids of the families we’ll be visiting on Eid. I’m thinking some boxes of chocolate-can’t really think of anything else.
We were not expecting any invites for Eid, so I hadn’t requested day off.
All of a sudden today we got invites for Eid day, and had to contact employer to request day off on short notice. Thank God the supervisor made an exception for me so I’ll be able to join the rest of the family for Eid lunch/dinners, etc…so its all good!
Every year their are Chaand raat melas and from my masjid, we have a chaand raat get together for mehndi and such for all the women/girls…
Eid will start off at the masjid for namaz, which is followed by a community naashta there..it’s a whole Eid carnival…bouncy houses, pony rides, face painting, goody bags etc. After that we will go to my nani’s house where the whole khaandan is assembled…we stay for awhile, then go to the inlaws…come back to my family’s eid party at night at my khala’s where we do gift exchanges and eidi pass out, as well as some sort of games for the kids.
Aside from that, I have separate 2 Eid parties planned with my friends circle on the weekends following Eid and a kids Eid party where our children will assemble Eid gift bags to pass out to refugee communities in our city
Mashallah that’s such a sweet thing to do and an amazing thing to teach your kids. I’ll have to remember to incorporate this with my kids in the future Inshallah.
