"The Earth" Flat Or Round?

:salam2:

Suppose you were asked a question about the earth that 'if it is in round shape, flat or Geo-spherical, spread or wide expanse etc."? How you’ll explain?

P.S. Purpose of this thread to educate ourselves and :insh: I’ll try to open more threads for education purpose.

Re: “The Earth” Flat Or Round?

my explanation will depend who is asking me the question:
i’ll use mathematics and physics or I might use philosophy and logic, or I might use the scriptures (Torah, or Quran), and I might just simply point at the photo and go “Look! that can not be flat”

Re: “The Earth” Flat Or Round?

Peace BigdaNwab,

What do you mean when you say “my explanation will depend who is asking me”?

Thread is opened in religion forum and you suppose to answer the question with use of scriptures.

Re: “The Earth” Flat Or Round?

The scriptures beg the humans to reflect, see, and observe. The final Book is the Book of Wisdom wherein there are lessons of all kinds in its parables. Therefore the same inspirational messages reveals to me that Abrahim’s (pbuh) argument with Nimrud (2:258) is an example of intelligent communication. Ibn Tufyl in his book Hayy ibn Yqzan discusses the importance of adjusting one’s method and words of communication based on the assessment of subject and circumstances. So you explain the idea of mathematical infinity to a 6 year old differently than to a graduate student of math, or and differently to an adult student of philosophy, or a hamster.

But the Mullah, and Qari, and linguists, and most treat Quran as a book of words and quotes to play copy&paste with. They think not in wisdom, but in their domain expertise, and just want to show off their domain knowledge.

Scripture.
We set our self up for a big mess(arguments), when don’t differentiate.

Re: “The Earth” Flat Or Round?

LKK I am only going to say it once(or two or 3 times)
So pay attention.
Earth is round and pretty flat as well.
Like when I play soccer, I never put ball on grass for a kick and found it rolling down.

In quran, earth is spoken in both ways, from our vintage point, where we see it find it flat, and go by our every day business. Like a floor ,resting place with food growing on it. etc
And I heard its said to be spherical.(should be easy to find)
And I read once from God perspective how it was made reducing from the ends, which if you do in both ways become a sphere. I was very surprised BTW.. since I was struggling with making shape with out keep record of center.
Like when you draw circle you keep track of the distance of the line from center of the circle. But I was looking for a way to draw arc/parabola with out keeping track from center.
Thats how it was described in quarn.

So its flat from our vintage point, and its not from out side.

Speaking of vintage point, be mind full, I have seen people making case against quran, ignoring its talking about our vintage point.
