the downfalls of shaving!

hiya…

quick question…

ive always waxed my arms n so on, just with my legs because i have to wear skirts and tights quite often i never can actually wait for my hair to grow long enough for it to wax so ive always just ended up shaving my legs for the last 5-6years.

its got to the point now where, my arms for example as ive always waxed them, they r very smooth n soft but i mean if i dont shave every two days its not a very nice feeling. which is wat i want to rectify.

i badly want my legs to go back to being smooth soft n hair free like the rest, shaving wasnt the best idea to be honest and i very much regret it as it also i guess effects ur confidence.

im gettin married in 8months time so i have some time to experiment with my legs and get them bk to being smooothhhh as the last thing i want is to be cuddled up after marriage n feel my stubbly legs!!! its very annoying

pls if ne1 has had the same problem or knws of any remedies which will actually work? and any reccomended exfoliaters as shaving obviously causes alot of ingrown hair growth.

thank youuuu

Re: the downfalls of shaving!

If you start regularly waxing your legs, the thickness will go away to quite an extent, in 8 months. I started waxing my legs regularly less than a year ago and my hair is noticeably thinner. And my hair was THICK. I didn't even like shaving because that didn't give a good enough result either. (Light stubble by the evening :D)

I did not even wax regularly. But if you try to do it every two weeks, which is when hair usually starts growing out, you can do much better in 8 months. You don't have to wait for a full growth, though that is economical.

It will cost you a bit, especially if you get it done (as opposed to spending hours at it, doing it yourself), but the result, I think will be well-worth it. Especially because the hair wont get any thicker, assuming of course you don't start shaving again.

You can also work out a discount with your salon if you do decide to go that often. Also, you don't HAVE to do it that regularly. You can go once a month or whatever works for you.

As for exfoliaters, I hear pumice stone is good for gradually decreasing hair growth. You obviously want to be gentle with it.

In addition, I have started regularly exfoliating my skin with bath exfoliating gloves. They have helped with ingrown hair. Loofah's haven't worked for me. I find them to be too gentle to do ANYTHING. What will work for you, depends on your skin.

Good luck!

A pumice stone will scratch the surface of your skin and lead to pigmentation. It's meant for callous and dead-skin.

A loofah or exfoliation glove will help release the hair trapped under-the skin, use it in circular motions.

hiya....thanks curious lady and gina

i think alot of girls that shave have the similar problem especially if growth is fast n thick...

i'll definetly try going to the salon cos to be honest i just cant do it to myself.i tried waxing my legs the other day n put the wax n then the strip and then i count 1...2...3...hoping to pull it off by 3 however my hands just simply dont move!!!!

Re: the downfalls of shaving!

Im gonna start waxing i hav the same problem, my thighs are smooth because i only shave there like once evry 1-2 months. But because i always show my bottom half of my legs im always shaving them which have made the skin rough and stubbly. Its horrible so now for summertime im gonna start getting my legs waxed. When you think about it to get legs underarms and bikini waxed its £32 here. (at a salon i know) Whilst blades that i use are like £15 for 6 blades i think. So waxing would last longer than blades and give you a smooth finish. I've tried waxing too i used the wax without strips and omg i did one patch and left it. Couldnt do it. hehe x

Epilators are another alternative. I used to go for regular waxing sessions, but it's simply gotten too expensive...plus, for religious reasons, I'm no longer comfortable with the idea of a bikini wax. But that's not a discussion for this thread.

Anyhow, I've found that the epilator is great for legs, arms and even thighs (though thighs vary with everyone...some are more sensitive than others). Once I've removed the hair with it on legs and arms, I don't need to worry for about it for a few weeks. For underarms and bikini area, I've found a combination of waxing, shaving and trimming has worked out for me. Wherever I do end up shaving, I make sure to gently exfoliate with a loofah (per Gina's suggestions) and to be generous with the moisturizer. This has cut down on ingrowns and those "not nice" feelings you get when the hair starts growing back.

Whatever you decide to do, pick the method that is most comfortable for you.
