Allah has indeed heard
what she tells you in dispute -
how her husbands treats her.
She makes complaints to God.
God hears what two of you talk
He surely is all hearing, all seeing.
Those who divorce telling
their wives they are like
their mothers’ rears -backs-
are base and false, for
mothers are the ones
who bring you in this world.
Still, Allah is all pardoning, all forgiving.
And if they tell their wives as
their mothers’ rears -backs-
and later regret, they must
set a slave free before they
touch their wife. You are thus
*admonished. **Allah knows all your *doings.
*If he has no money *
to set the slave free,
*he should eat nothing for two *
*months before he touches his *
*wife again. And if he cannot go *
*hungry, he should feed sixty *
*poor and hungry - affirming *
his faith in Allah and in his
courier. Allah sets such limits.
And those who don’t believe
will wait to be punished in a
*painful *torment.

I have rendered section 103 and 104 from ten other translations into free verse.
