Is there any quick way of recovering the files before carrying out the format?
Why does this happen?

Re: The disk in drive I is not formatted. Do you want to format it now?
Which OS did you use to create those files that are on that disk
Re: The disk in drive I is not formatted. Do you want to format it now?
there is 50% chances it gets corrupted, when you dont disable the USB connection before detaching it from usb port.
so next time disable it from the system try when you want to unplug it and I hope it wont get corrupted.
Re: The disk in drive I is not formatted. Do you want to format it now?
I bet you're using Windows 7. If yes, don't format it. It keeps telling me the same thing after I threw some files from my mac onto the Flash drive. Windows 7 keeps showing me this message, eventhough there isn't anything wrong with the Flash drive.
Re: The disk in drive I is not formatted. Do you want to format it now?
^ i've actually upgraded to windows vista, i think it was due to corrupt mp3 files on my mp3 player, otherwise my usb data disk is alright.
I've gotta remember to unplug the device properly
