Cosmetic Surgery has become the new trend in this time of fast track living and progressions in science… We have found a way to perfect ourselves or fix the little glitches we don’t like on our bodies.
There are of course pros and cons to cosmetic surgery. Reasons can vary from have to, want to, need to… The popularity of implants, face lifts, lyposuction, and wrinkle-reducing operations have taken a toll on our generation from shameful to passive… Although many still shun the idea we have all thought “What if…”.
The most common reason for implants has been “make me bigger”… Implants have become a part of a girl’s reality… They’ve helped women launch careers in modeling and TV… Although most women only want to see the positive, sometimes idealistic results of implants, they also have cons, the biggest one being they don’t last forever. There can be many complications to having implants… First of all implants are not a one operation deal, they have to be maintained… There can also be many infections during and after the surgery that can affect the outcome. There is also the question of breast-feeding… Although studies show that there is no danger in doing so there are concerns and difficulties when implants are involved… There are also many medical terms to describe specific situations… For example Capsular Contracture is when tissue builds up around the implant and starts to squeeze it… Like it sounds it can be very painful. Deflation may be the most common problem where the implant tears or rips, but this problem can be fixed by replacing them, as if they were cheap in the first place! Implants are definitely a surgery to research… There is a lot of controversy because of the attraction to young people… Society doesn’t know what to do when a fifteen-year old wants implants for her birthday…
Liposuction is another cosmetic surgery procedure, which removes “fat cells from the body to produce smoother contours”… This procedure is usually aimed at the thighs and stomach. Men and women seek a solution to losing a few pounds and cellulite… Frustration and depression can drive them to a quick fix that in the long run can cause more harm because of the physical and emotional risks…
Liposuction has been around for years but recently more and more complications have been detected… There are many physical and emotional risks involved in liposuction because it directly deals with weight, which is of major social concern… The main physical risk is if too much fat and fluid are removed you can go into “shock, bleed internally, or worst of all die”… There are also many situations where the individual is left with sacks of skin where the fat once occupied space. Reality being the surgery is only as good as the surgeon…
Emotionally, people are willing to sacrifice themselves physically to feel and look better… But truthfully many are disappointed with their results because they expected a dramatic change… This disappointment can lead to further procedures or worse states of depression or self hate.
Cosmetic surgery has been taken as the easy way to fix something you dislike about your body image… Whether you have the money or have to save up it’s something people are willing to spend their money on… Young women are being given the notion that it’s okay to have a surgical procedure because you’re only improving yourself… But with all the risks and feelings left after the procedure, is this really true?
