The Companions of the Cave and their Dog

A discussion at an iftaar party came up and a question was posed about having dogs as pets. I know that we have discussed this matter a few times here and there are differing opinions on whether or not it is permissible.

The question I have today is related specifically to the dog that was found to be guarding the entrance to the cave where Ashaabul Kahf slept. Someone mentioned that the dog shall rise as a person on the Day of Judgement…others objected to this. It was also mentioned that this will be the only dog to enter Jannah.

I’d like to know if any of this is in fact mentioned somewhere and what the context is.
I’ve tried doing a search online but haven’t been able to find anything specific about the matter.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

nobody?

Re: The Companions of the Cave and their Dog

As far as I know there is no further mention of that dog, or a dog in Jannah anywhere else in the Quran. But one thing is made clear in Surah Al-Kahf itself: That it is not important how many these people were 6,7, or 8, or who actually were they. That is infact kept hidden from human knowledge. What is important is the essence of the incident.

People use hadith without understanding the entire life of the prophet. They take it like a Confucious quote. If God hadnt mentioned the dog in Al Kahf, Mullah would hate dogs like pigs based on the 'unclean' hadith quote. It may also be inferred, that if ONE instance is described, there are probably many instances like that where dogs (or many animals) have accompanied Friends of Allah as among them.

There are other hadith that describe dogs from hell, black and white spots that Abu Jahl saw and it scared the life out of him.

The ONLY ONE thing I can understand from the 'dogs are unclean' hadith is that: DO NOT share your eating utensils with a dog. Other farm animals like goat and cow may be fine, but try to be very careful sharing with a dog. And if you must, then wash it thoroughly (7 times).

Finally, if wine can be in heaven, chastised humans can be in heaven, birds can be in heaven, why can't dogs and pigs be in heaven? If this is Allah's heaven, anything can be in there, if its a Mullah-intellect heaven, he will use his heart's desire and probably even some of his own relatives wont be in that heaven.

Re: The Companions of the Cave and their Dog

What's the Quranic verse?

Dogs were made by who? God or Satan?

Screw mullahs man. The amount of misinformation they spread

Re: The Companions of the Cave and their Dog

Regardless of permissibility or lack thereof, dogs are safety hazard. Just look at the number of incidents each year involving dogs and children.

Muzna, as soon as you see ke long phainka phaanki kar rahay hain religion ke maamlay main, then ask them for the reference.

If an animal protecting the cave should go to heaven, then the best qualified one is the pigeon who laid eggs in front of the cave where prophet was hiding on his way to madinah (heard of this story, never verified it)

True story ... Also spider made a web around entrance to make it appear no one was inside.

Re: The Companions of the Cave and their Dog

There are weak Hadith on the dog of the cave going to paradise … But not as a human … As a dog and references for weak Hadith are hard to find on the net. But clues allude to them … If you go to tafsir ibn kathir you will read the opinion given on verse 18:18 about how angels do not enter where there are dogs … However there seems to be that given to counter the other opinion implying that other narrations are weak to the contrary, which means they are there.

also see this link … Will there be animals in Paradise? - islamqa.info

Re: The Companions of the Cave and their Dog

Also read this link …

The ten blessed animals - Islam web - English

In it there is negation of the idea that there will be ten specific animals in jannah … On the basis that in a Sahee Hadith … Animals will be called in groups on the Day of Judgment and commanded to become dust. That piece then goes on to state evidence is required to highlight the specific case, which to me is a strange statement … If there are certain scholars saying there are 10 specific animals going to Jannah based on weak Hadith references then surely those weak references suffice as being the exception to general ‘becoming dust’ as per the saheeh Hadith … Furthermore … The saheeh Hadith does not encapsulate without exception that ALL animals will be turned to dust and no animal will go to Jannah … It is a matter that is open.

So the presence of weak Hadith is greater than claiming an absolute when there is no such absolute in the Saheeh Hadith - therefore the correct opinion should be to take the opinion … Where the weak Hadith provide that exception.

Re: The Companions of the Cave and their Dog

Jazak Allah to all that have replied.

TLK...you are right...I normally ask for references but sometimes it is an elder and asking for such reference is perceived as questioning their knowledge and disrespectful so I try not to do it publicly.

I will, however, speak privately to the lady that brought this up and let her know what I have found out. Perhaps she can provide more detail to support her position or maybe she will do some more research and stop spreading such information until such time as she is able to find solid evidence.

Re: The Companions of the Cave and their Dog

its certainly mentioned in Books, my Imam mentioned at least one Scholar who described the actions of the dog, prior to arriving at the cave, he also mentioned the opinion the dog will be admitted as a person. Its not something she needs proof for, its a Mashur Matter . From what i know she would not need to explain the matter for you

I do not know if something personal is going on here behind the scenes, also the story is certainly not something to get angry about, so there is no need to chase the women and make her prove herself imposing upon her methodology that is itself suspect. I only see the ideology/methodology winning here, uff its like an isis invite to their methodology

I think the woman is with better ideology as she is, she is narrated from the works of the scholars, and she believes. MashAllah

Re: The Companions of the Cave and their Dog

Thanks for your opinion.
I'm not certain what you mean by "Mashur Matter" but if it has no other meaning than "popular matter" then I will, respectfully disagree with you.
I don't believe that a belief that is "popular" but without any supporting corroboration should be propagated.

As for the rest of your post.....regarding "something personal" or "something to get angry about".....I'm not sure what posts you are reading, or what you are trying to read between the lines so let me assure you, there is nothing there to read.

Re: The Companions of the Cave and their Dog

Something like Marifah and the Arifeen would be banned altogether then...

Re: The Companions of the Cave and their Dog

The essentials of the deen have been made clear in the Quran Pak. Sticking with the Community - Ahlus Sunnah wal Jamaah - gives us the Sunnah - which is further explanation and a way for us

However coming back to the Quran Pak - as far as I know - its Knowledge, I mean deep knowledge about what is not absolutely clear from the wording like what happened is available to us. Well not necessarily us as in me and you but someone, a deep Muslim, a Momin, and someone Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala has chosen to give information to. So just because you do not have it does not mean anything bad about you

Some people in the past have embarked on this journey to worship Allah Ta'ala and some people do find stations of Qurb where information like this is given to them. However the essentials of the Deen have been already explained to us in detail, to all of us, so I do not think anybody is obligated to believe in extra beliefs

Now the big However, However we must be careful not to reject the correct beliefs, even the extra ones, and we must be careful in how we approach and deal with things which may not sit right with us and the manner we reject them in? if we do choose such a path

Without saying no corroboration exists for the belief in the Hadith literature or historical works, since I can not make such a statement, I would say it would be very difficult to either prove or disprove the story with all the possible inputs we have on the subject. All we have is belief for this

We do believe in similar things, like in Sahih Bukhari there is a Hadith on the Jannatti tree [the crying one] which felt sad about RasoolAllah SallAllahu Alaihi wa Ahlihi wa Sallam not standing under it any more. It asked for Companionship in Jannat, and attained it.

So we must be careful about how blanket ourselves in the apparent world, I ask Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala to protect me from believing in untrue stories which are harmful to me, and I ask Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala to give me the taufeeq to recognise the true stories

As it stands I do believe in Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala being pleased with the actions of that Loyal Dog.
