The Co-Dependent Friend

Has anyone experience a situation where you have a good friend that does not listen?

Meaning, they talk about their problems and actively ASK you for advice but do not heed a single thing?

Its very frustrating because Im not offering…Im being asked what to do constantly but its like banging your head on a brick wall…:frusty:

Re: The Co-Dependent Friend

There's always THAT person in pretty much every social circle.

Re: The Co-Dependent Friend

Dump her.

Re: The Co-Dependent Friend

useless friend??.......

Re: The Co-Dependent Friend

No, all my friends are sane.

Re: The Co-Dependent Friend

I would like to add though, that those kinds of people aren't really FRIENDS. More like people-you-know.

Re: The Co-Dependent Friend

When she asks for advice.....and you KNOW....that you have absolutely NOTHING different to say than what you previously advised.....then tell her that. Just calmly tell her that "I've given the same advice each and every time you ask me what to do. We're reliving the same situation all the time. So, something has to change. Either you act on the advice or see if you can get a different opinion from another person."

^OR...everytime she asks you what to do, tell her you don't know. She'll eventually stop bugging you when she sees that you're not going to spend energy on responding to her. Be friendly with her in all other ways...but feign the cluelessness. She'll find another friend to advise her.
