Hasan Akbar Kamal is an urdu poet and professor of English in Karachi.
I have had a previlige to be his student during my high school (Intermediate) days… I used to visit his home for extra tution help and all. During that time, I came in contact with his poetry and was inspired by the simple words.
Tina Sani’s famous “Koi baat karo, koi khushbu jaisee baat karo”, back groun song of drama “Nijaat” and a milli naghma sung by Vital Signs on air force are just a few of his known works…
These two poems, I have shared in Gupshup a few times in the past. Thought to share it in Voice as well… Enjoy:
Poem 1:
Hai mehrbaaN kabhi naa aashnaaoN jaisa hai
Mizaaj uss kaa ajab dhoop chaaa’oN jaisa hai
Jo raaaaat ho tau pekar shuaaaaaa’oN jaisa hai
ghamoN kee dhup agar ho tau chaa’oN jaisa hai
Baras rahaa hay magar tishnagi naheeN bujhtee
maiN rahguzar hooN aur woh ghaTaaoN jaisa hai
Teray khiyaal say bach kar bataa kahaaN jaaooN?
yahaaaaaN sukoot bhee teri sadaaoN jaisaaa hai
Kamal maiN ussay kiss dil say bewafa keh dooN?
Woh bewafaa tau naheeN, bewafaaoN jaisa hai
